Default information about North Myrtle Beach, SC

I'm planning to return to South Carolina the end of January, 2009, and instead of moving back to Myrtle Beach, I am interested in any information regarding North Myrtle Beach that anyone can give me pertaining to areas that I should avoid in my search for an apartment. I am a retired Caucasian single woman who will be renting an apartment by myself. I visited and shopped in North Myrtle Beach during my last stay and it appeared to be a clean, decent place, however, perhaps I missed an area that would be considered "undesirable". Is there any public transportation provided for the residents of North Myrtle Beach? I understand that the bus service from Conway to Myrtle Beach to North Myrtle Beach was discontinued shortly after I left the beach in 2007. Due to the fact that I'm not certain just how long my car will last (it's pretty old), I may require the use of public transportation on occasion. Thank you for any information that anyone can give me.

NMB is a great town to live in and much better than Myrtle Beach. HOWEVER there is only one apartment complex in the city and the management fills it up with illegals and other nonsense so it is NOT a decent or safe palce to live. Most rentals are condos and single family homes. There are good deals to be had especially in Cherry Grove. Watch out for Windy Hill, another bastion of illegal Hispanics and a lot of crime in the less expensive places. DO NOT count on public transportation. It is sketchy and comes and goes faster than Christmas morning. You wait and wait and it may be good or probably not if you get my meaning. Mostly it never shows up, is late, limited stops, you must go to main Highway 17, you are dropped blocks or more from your destination. NMB and in fact the entire county is a car place. NMB can be pricier than other areas and right now jobs are totally nonexistent and getting worse. Layoffs, business closings, no one spending alot. Walmart is the only place in town hiring if you can stand working there. That's it. I love living here, good and bad. Nice parks, good folks, better than most in this area. Good luck. Just bring your car and a job.

Thanks for your insite on the area. Can you be more specific about the "one apartment complex"....if you prefer not to give it a name, what street it is on. Do you know the name of the public transportation company that currently serves NMB in order that I can visit their website? The one that serviced the area a couple of years back was from Conway but of course, they don't serve the area anymore. I'm pleased to read, though, that your consider NMB a "great town to live in". I'll check Cherry Grove rentals out. There's quite a few hispanics in MB, too.........even in the better neighborhoods. Know anything much about area around Gator Hole Plaza? I thought the area looked alive and busy. I'm retired and hopefully won't have to get a job. Thanks again for your input.
