Default looking to move to MB area from Cleveland,OH

mid 20's with a gf looking to move south. tired of the nasty cold and snow in cleveland. just wondering if anyone could suggest an area in or around myrtle beach for a couple in their 20's ... we're both servers and would probably look for another serving job down there, hopefully in the myrtle beach tourist area but would like an apartment for about what we're paying up here ( 2 bed for $700/ mo.) i've read bits about myrtle beach having quite a bit of crime. how serious is this, compared to what i would face in cleveland?

I'm originally from SC but am living in NE Ohio this year. My parents live in MB. There are lots of restaurants in the area. I know a lot of them have business drop off in the off-season, but there are some that stay busy year round and are popular with both tourists and locals. I think there was a thread a few months ago about the best restaurants for year-round servers. If you do a search of this sub-forum, I think it should turn up. (This MB sub-forum is newer, so I'm not sure about that).

Despite the crime stats, I think you'll find MB generally safe. I don't think it will be anything like downtown Cleveland.

Default Moving South

Me and my Husband just moved down here from MA. Jobs are not easy to find right now. I've been tryng to pick up a part-time bartending job and everyone is telling me to get back to them in later feb when tourist season starts. As far as rent you could find a 2br apartment for $700-800 a month. GOOD LUCK

I'm sure you'll be fine serving down here. I mean, most of the restaurants are decent priced to leave you w/ good tips. Matter of fact, I've found the same places in Ohio are cheaper then here, so your tips should be better anyway. I moved to SC from Green, Ohio (we live in the middle of no where, but frequently go to Myrtle or Charletson) in August. We like the change in weather, but every now & then I still miss the snow! Ha ha, who would have thought? This summer was really hot. I have heard that the crime rate is kind of high... but you're from Cleveland... so really how bad can it be?? It is a nice change from Ohio.

One more thing... If I was living in Myrtle, I'd be much happier than living where we currently are. I wish I could get a teaching job there! People & civilization always are a plus!!

I'm in Medina, OH. We like it here, although I do miss the SC weather. It has not been as much culture shock as I thought it would be.
