I grew up in Myrtle Beach in the 60s and 70s and I still have family who lives there. My Dad has been there since the 30s. There have been rumors like this, and especially about Disney for decades and none of them are true. Walt Disney never considered SC for Disney World because of the climate. It's too cold in the winter and Disney wanted a year round park. There have been a bunch of other rumors like this over the years. One that I remember very much is that the French were going to sell the Eiffel Tower to Myrtle Beach and they were going to set it up as a tourist attraction. However it is the Disney one that won't die even though it's been around for 3+ decades.

A theme park is not going to work in Myrtle Beach as Hardrock Park has demonstrated and several other now defunct ones (Pirate Land, Magic Harbor, etc) before it have proved.

Wow.... Downer. Something like that will never happen with attitudes like that.

I googled "Disney" and "Orangeburg" and came up with the themeparkinsider message board and your other post on City-Data on this subject. I remember hearing the rumors years ago about Disney to Myrtle Beach but I hadn't heard the one about Orangeburg. Sounds interesting and unbelievable at the same time! Does Disney actually own some land in Orangeburg, and I wonder for how long? It seems something like that would be in the news (although WIS has a story on its web page this week about Disney putting a new park in China).

Another thought is that it may be for another Disney Distribution Center like the one in Union County? I remember a/b 15 years or so ago when people were talking about Disney coming to Union County there were all sorts of grand ideas of what this would include. I remember some folks hoped it was going to be some giant Disney Emporium like you find down at WDW. Of course it's just a warehouse sitting out on a state highway away from any Interstates that used to have a small outlet store attached that sold returned or slightly-off products. Maybe the I-95/26 location is more ideal for something like this although Union can't stand to lose the jobs.
