Default question about unemployment

I have a relative that is working for a company that may be laying off by firing. He told me that in SC it is easier to get unemployment if you quit instead of getting fired. In my old home state of Michigan this is absolutely not true. It is the employers burden to prove that you do not deserve unemployment, and performance is not reason enough. You would have to do something criminal or very negligent to not receive unemployment. Does anyone know the rules for drawing unemployment in SC? Thanks

From my understanding, it is more difficult to get unemployment benefits if one QUITS a job rather than to be laid off or terminated. An employer does retain the right dispute an unemployment claim and I have done this in the past for employees who quit with no notice, no reason and who, otherwise, would have remained gainfully employed had they not quit. No milking the system allowed on my watch... thank you very much...
