Whoa, that is a toad! IMO, the black drum is the most under-appreciated fish in the inlet. Flounder, reds, and trout get all the attention, but black drum eat just as good and can save a day that's beginning to look like a skunkin'... I enjoy fishing for them, but have never seen one to match that. Nice fish!
Thank you so much for showing me the fish. I called hubby in to see it also......He said " yep, you should never have caught it on that flimsy line"..........Wow, I have never seen this fish, and I know I would have said just what your wife did.......
Woooo......Quite big and look at that mouth. Congratulations ......many years later........but......
That is something else ( thank your son for posting that also )
Thanks folks for your kind comments. Here's some more to the fishing story: My wife was actually using the Zepco 202 with 2lb line and extra small hook to catch bait for me to catch larger fish like Trout. As luck would have it, I was having no success. My wife (Married 41 yrs) was getting bored and decided to read a book, and placed her rod in the boat, yet with the small piece of shrimp still on the hook in the water. It must have set there for 30 min. with no attention, and I heard her scream, "grab the rod, its leaving the boat!". It was actually coming toward my end of the boat & with luck I was able to grab the rod and hold on. I set the drag real loose and just let it play out. I told her "I will never get this fish in". No net, light line, the cheapest fishing combo one could buy, probably around $2.50 at that time. Talk about not being ready.
At that time we decided to quit fishing and get back to the marina to show our fish off. Not being much of a boatsman at that time, I crashed into the dock (not very fast), but just enough to hurt her arm from catching herself. With very bruised ego, I tied up, paid up, and didn't show my prized fish to no one.
But of course the fish has been looked over by many many people that come to my office. I have bragged many times and related the story.
I think Capt Dave's Dockside is a great place to take guest plus it has a pretty varied menu....oh my the Sunday Brunch is fantastic!
