I have friends in construction who have lived here all their lives and are currently flipping burgers or bussing tables, and damn glad to have gotten these jobs. There's a long line of construction workers looking for anything to do. At some point, it will start up again but probably not this year. I can't remember the last time I saw any local construction jobs in the newspaper.
For guaranteed savings, I thought Rapture was optimistic at 2%, even with $200K bankroll. I'm sure your wife is on top of it, but 5% sounds more like a projected dividend on an investment, rather than interest. Sounds good if you can get it. Good luck to ya'

Hi. The $12-$14 wasn't for construction jobs, it was for condo maintenance type jobs. Yeah, they require some simple building skills. But they're not catorgized as a "construciton" job. Check out Careerbuilder under technician and maintenance jobs. And yes, not very many are THAT high of pay. Most are around $10/hr.
5% IS the interest we're earning on a checking account. My wife just said, as I read your post to her, that you can even get a 3% "Christmas Club account". (which we also have).
Just to let you know, she's "tricky" with the funds. We are not into the stock market stuff and never really was. (although we've earned over $100K between the 2 of use so far, @ 34years ) Also paid our house off about 3 years ago. And have an acre of Property for sale out in Forestbrook in Myrtle. No help from family.... just hard work. That's why we waited to have children until the OLD (J/J) age of 34.
And we actually haven't made our minds up yet on where to go. Florida is still in question. Also CA (central coast, San Lois Obispo area). We're still searching and thinking.
Thanks!

Thanks again for that DM about your bank!
Reps to you and thanks so much for the helpful information. I called your bank and they told me that the current interest rate on that checking account is 4.01%. A % lower than what you stated, but still unbelievably good! I was so skeptical about this, like (PawleysDude) but you are right. Seems too good to be true! The bank is sending me some information and I plan to open an account with them as soon as I can. Even though I sent you a DM a little while ago, I also wanted to post something on here about it to verify your post.
Thanks again so much!

No problem!!
We just went to that bank today, due to the interest on this subject. They lowered the rate by 1% like you said. (we didn't know it until today ) But they said they did it last month.
Oh, well. Still good. BUT........
There IS another bank we checked out and IT IS 5.01% on a checking account up to $30,000 per account. There are a few more in the area too.
Anyhow...hope the info helps! Oh....wife says sorry about the 5% that was really 4% interest at the one bank. Like I said, we just found out that they lowered it within the last month.
Bye.

FYI, the County Bank in Greenwood, SC has 4.75% interest on accounts up to $25,000. The new account is called kasasa, or something like that.....you can look it up on-line or you can call Patrick at 864.942.1500 for more info. I haven't opened the account yet but I just got the info confirmed today and it sounds like a good deal right now. Hope this helps........

Windjammer Village
In Little River there is a little sub-division called Windjammer Village. Although there are a lot of seniors there it really is a great place. It's a private gated community with its own amenity center, storage yard, boat launch for the ICW and very wooded with mostly mature tree.
Windjammer Village - Little River, SC
Right now there are many affordable homes there, some selling short and very reasonable HOA dues at around $65.00 month.
