I am planning on relocating my husband and i and our 3 children ages 2,7,9. I was wondering how I can find out more information on the school system. some of the studying they are working on what is recommended knowledge for entering 4th and 2nd grades. along with the dates of the school year. I have heard that the school year starts in august and ends in may. I wish to be there in time for my children to start at the beginning of the year instead of the middle so it will be easier for them to make the transition. any information anyone can give me will be great right now we are in massachusetts and the school year begins the last wed in aug and ends the middle of june depending on the snow days up here.

Here is the link to the Horry County School District, i am sure there is a calendar on it:

We are in the Georgetwon District, the county to the south and the school year ends here on June 1 and will start up again in second week of August.

I cannot tell you about the exact schools but Horry County generally scores among the top schools in the state consistantly.

We just moved from NJ to SC - Myrtle Beach the Carolina Forest area. My son is in lst. grade and the schools here a way ahead of where he was in NJ, they are learning things that he was expected to learn in lst. grade in NJ. They have been wonderful at the school and he is being tutored staring this week.

His last day of school is June 8th. which would have been his last day in NJ also. School starts at 7:35AM which is so early for us. School in NJ for was 8:50AM - they get out at 2:35PM.
