Would like to hear from those who have retired to the MB area. Researching the best state as far as taxes on SS, and cost of living. We are beach people, and have been to MB and North Carolina in the past. We have heard that SC is better as far as taxes and cost of living. What about health care? Thanks for any input you can give us

Of any of the beach towns in North and South Carolina, Charleston will by far have the best health care.
My husband and I used the hospitals in Charleston and doctors who were Pawleys Island/Georgetown/Charleston when we lived in Myrtle Beach. A lot of the Pawleys Island doctors are tied to MUSC.
South Carolina does not tax social security benefits but pension income is taxed at about 7%. Also, you can't beat the ridiculously low taxes on primary home real estate which get even lower once you are 65. Have not had any issues finding quality health care providers in the Myrtle Beach area.
Thanks for all the info Now how does everyone like living in the MB area? Are you happy you moved there? What would you do differently? Nice areas to live, places to stay away from. Thanks

marcandme...If you scroll through all of the folder titles in this MB/Conway thread, you will find all of your answers! I have spent a few years here learning from these fine folks. We will be taking the plunge at the end of this/first of next year and I have really educated myself from this board, even though I am a native SCarolinian and have spent many wonderful times at MB....can't go wrong moving to the beach - in my humble opinion!
We moved about 8 months ago to Little River. Its a really nice community, called Stone's Edge, no HOA"S. We found a really good realtor named Deb, who listened to what we needed. Its a quiet community, close to the beaches, shops, and hwys. We retired here, and the cost of living is much less than in Mass., the biggest expense was the move itself. But we only took what we had to have. There is a hospital near by, and many medical facilities. And a great vet for our dogs. Houses are much cheaper then in Mass. I sold my house there, and was able to buy a house here, without a mortgage! It has turned out to be a very happy decision for us.
Good luck, and hope to see you at the beach!
lizamy...I looked at the 3 homes available and two of them look like something we'd be interested in...the prices certainly are right for us. While there are not as many trees as I would like, at least there are some. I had not seen this neighborhood - thanks for sharing and glad you are enjoying your retirement - I'm coming soon!
We use the vet Kind Care, on Hwy 9, in Little River. Its 5 minutes from our house. They are very good with our dogs, and the prices are reasonable. Good luck!
