I'd also like some input on this as we just might find ourselves in MB. I've heard some good things about the area hospitals.

I came to Myrtle Beach from Pittsburgh in 1982...with 10 years of nursing under my belt. 26 1/2 years later I have done acute care, hospice, DON in SNF, home health and legal nurse consulting.
YES....there are plenty of nursing jobs down here.

MB has the following hospitals:
Grand Strand Regional Medical Center (GSRMC) in Myrtle Beach (north end)
Conway Medical Center (CMC) in Conway
Loris Healthcare in Loris
Seacoast Medical Center (affiliated with Loris) in Longs
South Strand Healthcare (affiliated with GSRMC) on South end of Myrtle Beach
Georgetown Hospital in Georgetown
Waccamaw Hospital (affiliated with Georgetown Medical Center) in Litchfield Beach
Hope this helps.

That does help. While my wife and I debate what area to relocate to, if we can unload our house, I noticed via a salary comparision website that RNs in MB make a noticeable amount more than RNs in the Charleston area. Is this accurate?

They are building a new hospital right outside of Charleston. For the life of me I cannot remember the name of it since I haven't gone down there since early summer. For all I know, it could be done by now!
You'd probably do best by calling the actual hospitals and see what their starting salaries would be based on your experiences and if they even have any openings. For every position open, most jobs get 200+ applications if not more. Not sure about the medical field, however.

My daughter, an ICU nurse with 15 years experience, lives in MB. Her recent experience indicates that while there are nursing jobs, they are not as plentiful as years' past. She was hired at Georgetown/Waccamaw, their census dropped, hence no hours. She was hired at Brunswick in NC (a small community hospital) but it wasn't a good fit (she likes the challenges presented by a larger ICU/hospital. She's now working at New Hanover (teaching hospital in Wilmington NC) and loves it, but her commute is 90+ miles each way. During her orientation, there were many many nurses who had been laid off, some with 15 years experience. So while there are jobs, the market has changed.

Well, I've been here since 1982 and that's the FIRST I have ever heard that! When I worked for a hospital in Conway in the 80's, I used to help with the salary comparisons in Horry County and Georgetown County (I worked in Nursing Administration). Conway was always the LOWEST paid of the bunch. I have a real hard time imagining that RN's make MORE in the Myrtle Beach area than they do in Charleston. I also have a hard time believing that any RN is having trouble getting a job around here.
Columbia, SC pays very well. I am amazed at some of the salaries of the 2 year (AD) grads.........................more than I make after 36 years of nursing under my belt!

The RN jobs clog up any job searches I have tried. They are overly abundant.

I came from Latrobe PA - moved to Florida. Been a PCU nurse for past 28 years. Would like to do a 2-3 month seasonal summer contract in MB. Anyone have any info about the hospital? Do they hire summer seasonal? What is hourly rate? Do they have housing available? Would like to have a beach condo while there - is that possible? Thanks for any info.
