Hi! My fiance and I are looking to relocate to Myrtle Beach, and don't know too much about the area. I'm very involved in the performing arts, but don't see too many theatre/performing arts venues or show listings. We currently live in DC, so there is a ton of culteral arts at every corner. I know it won't be the same in Myrtle Beach, but is there anything?
I have heard the Long Bay Symphony on the radio, but it does not really seem to be a high quality professional organization from their sound. If you could capture the culturally rich performing arts communities in Greenville and Charleston and move either of them to Myrtle Beach, you'd be all set.
Well..... (chuckle chuckle)...I currently own and run my own professional theatre company in Washington DC. So I produce, direct, etc.....
I realize I'm not going to have anywhere near the amount of opportunities as there are in DC, but we're moving for other reasons.....and I'll have to make due. I'll be having a job in another field, etc...
Mainly, I'd just really like to at least be able to attend some theatre on a semi-regular basis --- but haven't seen any online to attend in the Myrtle Beach area. I'm hoping I might be wrong?....
I just moved to Conway and I see they have a theater in the downtown area. I haven't been to any shows there yet, so I can't give an opinion. Conway is right outside Myrtle Beach, so it's not that far to travel. http://www.conwaymainstreet.com/
I don't know if there is anything on that site about it but it tells you a little about the town and what's there. There are all art galleries, cafes etc...
I know that in Myrtle Beach there are some productions for tourists, maybe you would like to get involved in. I'm sure they are not what you had in mind but at least it's something involving producing, acting etc...http://www.discovermyrtlebeach.com/theaters.htm
Nothing like your calibre/type of theatre in MB. Not a darn thing. Nada; all the venues are purely tourist oriented.
Conway, Marion have some small local community theater action, but there is a new performing arts center being built now in Florence. Francis Marion University has a corner on the market for the type of theatre you are looking for.
Thank you everyone! This has all been very helpful info! I appreciate it!
