Sound like you did then it didn't pan out. Not the best situation, but it would be no different anywhere else you take that same leap of faith.
Best of luck when you get back to Florida. I'm seeing folks moving UP from Florida all the time. Trying to escape the heat/humidity, taxes, Insurance woes, etc.

I AGREE, I AGREE, I AGREE, I AGREE!
Research is the most important thing that someone can do prior to moving, rrufast. Everything you say is true here. I'd also like to throw in my 2 cents while this subject is being brought up.
Fact: If you currently make $25 per hour at your current job up north, expect half of that for the same position here. Salaries are lower here in the lovely state of South Carolina. It's a fact. There are some really good paying jobs out here to be found but having unrealistic expectations are going to hurt job seekers. There are really great companies in this area that have excellent benefits but that may require you to take a pay cut an even an entry level position just to get your foot in the door. I could go on and on about this subject........
Fact: The county and city websites have alot of useful information. I can't even begin to count how many people I come in contact with that complain about recreation for their kids or for themselves and other issues about the DMV and other public services. It just takes a little effort in obtaining information prior to moving here to know what to expect.
The same goes for housing. Most people say that homes are cheaper here. I am a land and a home owner so I have not experienced anything outside of that. However, if you were to ask someone I know from Michigan who is currently a homeowner here, they would tell you that they live a heck of a lot cheaper here than they did up there.
Last but not least - South Carolina is what it is. It is a state you either love or hate. Personally, I love it. This state if part of me. Always has been, always will be. But the reality of it is that people are going to be in a huge culture shock when they move here. It's different and you either grow to accept it or move on. Again, unrealistic expectations come in to play for those who think it is going to be similiar to what they are used to. Totally different state, totally different rules, totally different people, totally different lifestyle, totally different pay, totally different cost of living, totally different...period.
I could go on and on but it's late and I'm tired......
