Red face Finding a JOB in Myrtle Beach- depressing?

Sounds like the job market in MB area is pretty bad, I heard they are opening a Hard Rock theme park... maybe that will help spur new businesses...
I am looking to move in Jan 2008 - but when I am using popular search engines for jobs, I am turning up hardly anything! I of course won't move until I have secured employment, but it's looking bleak! Anyone have any tips? Is Myrtle Beach only a place for those retired or vacationing?

Yep, pretty much. Most jobs there are tourist/customer service related, waiters, retail clerks and so forth, and even some of those are seasonal.

What type of work are you looking for? There are other jobs because everyone I've met so far here does not work in a restaurant or retail store.

Yes there are other jobs, there is medical jobs, construction and real estate also, but Myrtle Beach revolves around tourism and the majority of jobs to be found there are in the entertainment and hospitality industry.

Nail-Head.

I lived there back in 2001 that was pretty much all your options.

I have been doing lots of research on the Myrtle Beach area because I wanted to move close to North Myrtle. The jobs are pretty much like like every one said but I would like to add that in January the job market looks dead in Myrtle beach for everything. It seems that business picks up again close to spring.

The problem with mb is not getting a job but housing, the price for housing is out of this world.
You have to move 30 miles plus out of town to find housing that is not over inflated. the economy is slowing there some as it is all over the us. but I think the carolinas will be moving in a good direction for the next forseeable future. Unlike michigan which just needs some brave soul to pull the flush lever.

There are jobs, but you have to look for them. With the enormous number of people who live in MB year-round and are moving there in the near future (just look at all the housing developments that are sprouting up everywhere) there are jobs that these people need to sustain their lifestyles.

While tourism jobs are a dime a dozen (and pay just about as much) there are better jobs available in the medical, education and construction fields. There are also lawyers and municipal jobs. Google the various communities to see about their jobs. Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach and North Myrtle Beach all have websites with jobs listed. I'm not sure about Surfside or Pawley's.

You could also expand your search a bit further to include Little River, Georgetown and Conway. Good luck to you.

I'm assuming you mean in Myrtle Beach on the water? You can easily find a house in Myrtle Beach, three bedrooms under 200,000.

As far as jobs, it's hard to give advice when we don't know what type of job someone is looking for. I would say if a person is looking for a tech. job it might be tough but there are jobs in other fields.
