is this a good area to purchase a condo in a gated community?
Any thoughts or opinions most appreciated.

This depends on your situation.

Post more details so we can give better advice. What community?

Almost all of Naples is safe.

We are looking at a condo in "The Preserve at the Shores" off Santa Barbara.
Wondering if this is a fairly central location...not too far from downtown &the beaches. Would prefer a mixed community (snowbirds as well as working families) rather than all retirees.

From a cursory glance at GOOG Maps, you might want to go 'stand' at that condo you are considering, and see if the I-75 road noise is a problem, or the Naples airport landing paths.
That development is less than a 1/4 mile from I-75.
Worth a close inspection with winds from different directions, imo.

That is a good location for what you want. It would be about 15-20 minutes to downtown/beaches, not including parking time.

I'm not sure the demographics but I would guess it favors retirees. Not really sure though.

I wouldn't worry about the noise, although it is something to consider. Airport noise complaints don't usually come from that area.

I've known a few younger working people who live there with jobs an easy communte away to downtown or the industrial park. Pretty close to I-75 for noise, but nice community.
