sounds like it's either usage prior to the closing, or else someone left a faucet or toilet running.

Did you fill a pool? Apparently there's a form to get a discount for that.

Yep, same for us both here in Riverstone and the house we rented in Black Bear Ridge.

Check your time frame on the bill. You should not be charged for anything until the day you closed, up until then, it's GL's house.

And, during construction, we found a toilet running a few times. I turned off the water both times and told our construction manager. They finally got it adjusted.

I just checked the bill in detail. It says meter reading from 6 to 7. Usage (1000 gal): 1

If I am reading this correctly I only used 1000 gallons. If so, from what you guys are saying my bill should be way lower. I guess I will need to call the public utilities department to inquire what's going on.

Do you have a pool? If so, does it have autofill? It shouldn't be an issue but if you're using 1000 gallons after taking possession and you're not doing anything in the house there could be a leak somewhere.

I got to the bottom of this. The high bill is driven by the monthly fixed cost of having 1" meter size. My bill would be about half the cost of the meter size was 5/8".

Now I am curious as to why my meter size is 1". Is it due to the model of the house I have or is all of Riverstone homes using 1" meter size. For those living in Riverstone, can you check and see what size meter you have? Should be right on your water bill.

Thanks.

Wow, your bill is high!! We live in a 1-story Biltmore model just up the street from you. We have a 5/8" or 3/4"-inch meter, (don't know which), which qualifies for a much lower water and sewer rate. Our bill for 3000-gallons of usage is $69.00 per month. Your bill of $116.00 is for 1000 gallons, the minimum billing amount. Each additional 1000 gallons will cost you $6.77. I suspect GLHomes uses a larger meter on the larger houses, such as yours.

It could be a builder standard as houses like the Dubonnet Grande are close to 5,000 square feet with 5-1/2 bathrooms. They probably planned the utilities for the lots to accommodate the biggest possible home.

Just for others info, I found out this is exactly what they do. The size of the meter depends on model of the house.

Hello, I bought a Chandon Grande in Marbella Isles, it is a little over 2,800 SF, but it does have 4 bathrooms. Does anybody know what size pipe it has? I assume it is the same size as in other sites.
