If it was possible to opt out of mosquito control spraying of your house via airplane, would you? The Collier Mosquito Control District currently sprays the pesticides Dibrom (also known as Naled, an organophosphate) and Zenivex, a pyrethroid.

If you would opt out, why? If you would not opt out, why not?

I would not opt out...

I have spent enough time in areas of SW FL that don't get sprayed to know that it would be virtually uninhabitable around here for 7 months out of the year without spraying.

I would not opt out either. Mosquitoes carry deadly diseases that, if left unchecked, could become epidemics. There are cases of dengue fever in the Orlando area at the present time. That is only one of many diseases that mosquitoes carry.

The spray does help some to get rid of the mosquitoes, but a good number of the bugs find a way to avoid the spray and live through it. The spray does not seem to bother the other insects as I still see plenty of them.

I should say that I never liked pesticides until I came to FL and I had to deal with mosquitoes. I still don't like them, but the alternatives are more severe.

Default Mosquito and Air Conditoners

Naples was always nice, the new residents whom live her today would not be here without bug spray and AC, I lived in Naples without either in the 50's, you could

Never go outside close to sunset without getting a ton of mosquito bites
When you turned you kitchen light on at night you would see dozens of Roaches
You could not sleep with A/C or just sweat all the time.

So if you do not want bug spray in Naples then I suggest you visit a third world county to our south and try a few days.
