Just one more reason why I hate my hometown of Naples. The bugs are absolutely atrocious! I am looking at my body and I'm seeing all types of rashes and bites on my body that bugs have done. I'm sick of if and wish they would just poison all the Mosquitos away!

Funny thing about biting insects.
Off takes care of most mosquitoes for me but the no-see-ums love me.
But, husband can be right next to me 24 hours a day and either never gets bit or has absolutely no reaction to them, if he does.

Does he have any auto immune disorders? The reaction to bug bites we get is caused by our immune system. People with immune dysfunction sometimes won't react to insect bites.

One word, coconut oil. It will not only heal your bites but repel ALL insects from being near you. The next time you get out of the shower and put on lotion, mix coconut oil with the lotion and spread it all over your body until completely covered. You won't have any problems with insects again.

It's incredible that you're so close to Miami and we don't get the love bugs. I'll see a couple every year and that's it. Mosquitoes - yup - we got those. My mom has an auto-immune disorder and she gets reactions from mosquito bites. Also, I always have to come in when the skeeters come out because they love me and my dh will say "What mosquitoes? I don't feel anything!"

I'll try the coconut oil. I love the stuff, but I've never tried it to repel bugs.

Bugs are just as smart than us humans...They love the weather here too. For almost every insect there is a natural predator or natural repellent plant. I usually tell people that complain about living in FL, especially SoFL, take a vacation to where ever you think it is better. It takes approx a year to get acclimated to the climate and routine but I don't know of anyone that has moved from FL stating they would never move back. If fact, most cant wait to move back and hate they ever moved in the first place.

Need help moving?

Thank you for your post FL_AVI8TR! As you say, there are natural repellants and predators. We just have to work to restore that balance instead of using the constant band-aid of aerial pesticides. A new meetup group has been formed called Holistic Mosquito Control of Southwest Florida at Holistic Mosquito Control of Southwest Florida (Naples , FL) - Meetup -- our goal is to work to change the ecology in a manner that helps restore the natural balance. We're not completely anti-spray as we understand that when things get out of control, they need brought back into control and until we're closer to that natural balance, that will be hard to do. As such, we're working WITH the governmental mosquito control bodies rather than against them and thus far, they've been great. But our hope is through education and some hard work, we can reduce the amount of environmentally damaging pesticide that needs to be used in Southwest Florida. We'd love to have you and anyone else interested join us. It is time to move Southwest Florida towards sustainability and a natural balance.

When I get out of here I am gone for good. I hate everything about this state. This is one born and bred Floridian that will NEVER be moving back! I have vacationed to every big city in America except Boston. Every single place I like better than Florida cities. Everything is so bland and boring and HOT here. Just three more weeks and I am free!

Let me be the first to congratulate you for moving. One less person this time of year is a welcome relief for those of us that enjoy living here.
