I am currently looking to buy a piece of land in the estates to later build a home. I am looking to build a small home between 1000sq ft-1100 sq ft. I am looking for the most economical option. I plan to live in it for a couple of years then possibly build a bigger home. Anyone have an idea of how much I would need to spend? Can I build a shell and finish all the florring and cabinetry myself?

Default Building a small Home

Good luck with that idea. Collier is very strict with there building codes and they do not seem to allow too much work by the individual homeowner. You can't install a water heater without a permit. You can easily check this at the Collier County site.

The size of the home you are looking for I think would still be available. The square footing you suggested is available and larger (2400 sf +). Of course these are also at the two extremes of the price range. I would look at what's available and see if that is cost effective for you.

Good Luck.

Ron
