Gosh. I've been in Naples 8 weeks total over the past 2 years - visiting with the intention of moving this August.

I found the folks I met utterly awesome! Neighbors, people in restaurants, service folks, friends of friends, etc. were all friendly, helpful, nice. I have had no unpleasant encounters with anyone personally.

I've had strangers go out of their way to help me. No kidding.

I'm sure there are grumpy people and people who overstep boundaries in Naples - there are these folks everywhere. I would not shy away from Naples based on what you read in posts here.

I don't just want to tell the TRUE stories about bad people in Naples. There were some nice ones, too. I had a flat tire late late one night while dressed nicely and a mechanic stopped to change it for me. Then an older couple stopped as well and insisted on following me home to make sure I made it safely since it was a small spare. I have plenty of other examples.

But if you offer services to the public for a job, you will be treated poorly in general, especially if you are young. That kind of behavior isn't acceptable up here in the Northwest like it is there. Plus the population isn't seasonal and your work is more stable. It is feast and famine down there.

Can't recommend it to anyone except other retirees.

But are you talking about 10 years ago that you left or more recently? While still highly seasonal there are more and more full timers moving in with families.
