Green Lodging a new trend in the state?
The hotel earned the One Palm designation from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in December by focusing on three conservation areas: water, energy, and landfill usage.

Any other hotels attempting to achieve this goal?

Will this be a selling point for customers?

That's interesting. The article stated that by the Naples Hilton switching from incandescent bulbs to florescent, "With 1,400 bulbs in the hotel’s rooms, based on three to four hours of daily use, that will mean a projected savings of $77 per lamp per year. That adds up to $107,800 in annual energy savings from lamps alone."

Wow, multiply that by the number of hotels in Naples alone, not to mention the state of Florida...that significant!!

It would be a selling point for me. I've stayed in several Naples hotels, and I like this Hilton. I've stayed at the Ritz Carlton, althought it's beaufiful, and I love the proximity to the beach - it's just too stuffy for me. This would definitely sway me to return to the Hilton.

Thanks for posting this.

All Florida hotels were "green" before 1900 though!! I bet that if you could still find a motel with unairconditioned bungalows it would be "green" as well.

Rosen Hotels in Orlando are also either Green Certified or in the process of getting there quickly.

It's a huge undertaking and I give kudos and appreciation to the businesses who are making responsible- albeit inconvenient choices to help our environment.
