listen I have absolutely no issues with some one being ostentatious. their money, they earned it, go for it.
I find in this country there are all these "rules" around money that I just don't understand.
Yes, you should be rich but if you are "too rich" or get "too big of a salary" that's a problem. for example. I've heard folks here say "It's ridiculous that NFL players get paid those salaries". uhmm no it's not, it's free market, they've got a skill, they get paid for it.
Some one wants a big ugly pretentious house, they get to buy/build it. why do they have to try it because you don't like it?
Now I get that there is an affordable housing crisis. I currently live in Philly and Naples is on my short list to retire too.
We have the same issues here. developers building multi million dollar properties. here the big problem is tax abatement. basically they build these expensive properties and the homeowner gets a 10 year free pass (almost free) on their property taxes.
