So we bought in a golf community but I don't want to buy a membership until I know if I want to play a lot. I want to play some public courses to try it out since I haven't done it in years. I google public course and most that come are private. Suggestions?

Pretty Sure Heritage Bay Golf are private - those are all 9 hole courses and its a 'bundled' golf community. You can play there in the Summer with the PGA pass usually.

#9 - This one is gone closed last year when the hotel was sold.

Stoneybrook in Estero is on the best public courses in the area, better than Arrowhead and blows away courses like #7 and #12 on that list.

Tiburon is great but pricey, right now its $300 in the morning and $200 in the afternoon. You don't even get a discount if you stay at the Ritz.

Raptor Bay is great, you can get a lunch time tee time around $150 usually if you check out Golfnow.com -

The moorings is semi-private, great executive style course & can walk it if you want to.

Is arrowhead considered a pretty good course?

Its a good course, sure. Not fancy or anything but plays well and has a good reputation. We like it but its not one of our top choices, especially when spending real $ on golf ($100 or so).

I am not looking for anything fancy. Just something I can go and practice a bit to decide if I want to buy a membership.

Yes, that would be fine for that. Better practice facilities than say a Quail Run or Hibiscus.

I’m currently watching the PGA Champions at Tiburon on tv. Wish I was there in person. Looks like a beautiful day to play some G.
