Question What is up with connecting houses

I am hoping someone can explain to me what is up with houses that connect. I am not talking about town houses. Specifically I am thinking of Green Hills. A house is torn down and on the lot 2 or more new houses are being built and there will be brick connecting them and they may even share a driveway. What is this about?

When you find out, let us know.

My guesses include possible duplex, mother-in-law suite/house, extended family w/limited budget and desire to be close, couple who hate each other but don't believe in divorce or murder.....

I will! I have asked several home owners but no one seems to know. Someone suggested something to do with taxes?! Unfortunately people with limited budgets don't live in this area unless they rent or bought their house many moons ago.

Default zoning

Many of those lots are in a R10 zoning that permits duplexes. Most lots were single family and large, so the single house was torn down to make way for the "duplex" on the lot. Since land values were so high, larger houses had to be built and to qualify as a "duplex" they are connected.

I think I get it...... Maybe what I don't get is, why, if you have $500,000 to spend on a house would you want to literally touch your neighbor. This is where I appreciate why people move to Williamson County where they also get a yard for their money (although I prefer Green Hills).
