Default Inglewood info.

Anyone know much about that area of town? I saw some homes for sale there and they were really nice and cheap. Just curious..

Thanks

There was two or three threads about Inglewood back about a month or two ago. As I recall, there was sort of a mixture of opinions. I suspect that there's some nice sub-area withing Inglewood, and some that aren't so nice. Supposedly East Nashville and areas further out along Gallatin Road are improving.

I lived out in Inglewood for a year, but that was back in the early 80's.

Some parts of Inglewood are very nice, some are littered with rental properties and aren't as nice 'looking'. Usually, further away from Galatin road you are the better, closer to the River, if you see a street or even a house that you like drop me a mail and Ill drive by, I live in Inglewood. (Preston Drive)

We're moving to E. Nashville in the fall and have pretty much narrowed down our search to Inglewood. Like other posters said, there's a lot of variability, but the nice areas are really lovely and good bargains are to be had. Sooke, what's Preston Rd. like? We have our eye on a house there. We'll be down in late Aug. to house hunt.

If you had asked this five years ago, I would have told you to listen to the words of Tupac, "Inglewood is always up to no good."

But things have improved drastically since then. East Nashville, including Inglewood, is one of the many gentrification areas around town where the riff-raff is being pushed out, neighborhoods are being cleaned up, and home prices are skyrocketing.

However, the process is nowhere near complete. There are still parts of Inglewood and East Nashville that are trash. Like another poster said, generally the further you are from Gallatin Road the better.

The only good way to make a decision about Inglewood is to find a specific house you like and scope out that street/area. There's just too wide of a gamut in the neighborhood as a whole to give an accurate answer to your question.

I've lived in Inglewood for 7 yrs now, it wasn't bad when I moved in. I live in a lovely neighborhood.

Sookie & Whit, I'm just up the road from you. I live off of Stratford Ave. Which house are you looking at Whit?

Dan Heller has been working like crazy on the corner of McGavock & Riverside, looks good. East Nashville School of Music just opened, Dan built a deck on to the side of Castrillos, and Backs & Tracks just opened up. Dan also has the corner of Riverside & Porter Road that he will be working on, plus the first 2 houses on Riverside just off of McGavock.

There is a BBQ place on Riverside & Rosebank that has the best BBQ outside of Memphis. YUM

Default Preston Drive

As to Preston Drive, I like it a lot. To be honest, I wouldn't want to move any where else in the Nashville area. There are maybe 2-3 houses that are duplex/4 plex rentals but the rest of the homes are very nice modest middle class homes, where neighbors wave hello and lawns are kept mowed. Rosebank is a nice little elementary school down the road, and you are nearby to Lockland Design center if you want to get your children in the Magnet Program. The yards are much bigger than the average nashville neighborhood, shopping is close, you have nice access to 65, briley pkwy, 40, 24, and most importantly, downtown. Since the area has been drastically improved (mostly by the lockland neighborhood a few blocks down) and the revamping of many of the neighborhood businesses. There has been 2 cars stolen on our street that i'm aware of in the last 10 years, but that happens anywhere now a days. I've left my car unlocked for days and nothing has happened. The cars do drive fast on Preston, which is my only real complaint, I don't let the kids or the animals right near the street (but we have a nice big backyard so its ok). Many houses are for sale because the neighborhood is HOT, prices have doubled in some cases. So if you find a nice deal I can even take some pics of the house for you if you want, so you can see the houses next to it.

PS to above poster, we love Dee's BBQ too

I drove around the Eastland, Stratford, Gallatin Pk., and Porter Rd. areas the other day. The later are Inglewood, right?

If so, I didn't see anything that looked that special to me. Did I miss something?

(no offense meant to anyone)

Not an exhaustive list, but here are many of the available homes within Inglewood (some under contract):
