2 Nashville Questions
I am considering moving to Nashville from the West Coast, and am in town for 10 days. My friends moved here in February and love it. Problem is they live in Thompson's Station are older and don't seeem to up on all the different areas. Here is my question; Would anyone be willing to show me around the city? I would pay for gas, food, etc.... While I love it here so far, I want to get the whole picture, not just the Franklin area.
Second question. Can anyone give me more information on the Bellevue Community Church/Pastor David Foster split up, last year?
Thanks all, from what I've seen this is a beautiful area, with great people.

Well, to the first one I can't help personally. Have you thought about taking one of the tours around town? There's one called "Crazy Lady Tour" or something like that; I've seen her and her bus around. It seems like it'd be a lot of fun. Most cabbies will do a tour as well; it'd be a little pricey but at least you wouldn't have to buy them dinner.
For your second question . .. since I live in Bellevue I heard all about the split. However, I don't go to BCC and what I tell you is just rumor. Quite often churches, especially large ones, have spats; sometimes over major issues, sometimes over petty ones. From what I gather, some people in the church thought Foster believed he WAS the church and got "a little too big for his britches" as they say in the south. Others remained loyal to Foster. In the end, the deacons had the power to remove him, and did. Afterwards, many of Foster's supporters met at the park up the street from where I live and voiced their support. I vaguely remember something about Foster starting a new church somewhere, but I didn't really keep up with it. It is quite an impressive church they've built in only a short time. I remember when they met at the Bellevue Middle School and didn't even have their own building. Again, I 'm just telling you what I know; if someone who actually attends the church comes along and says I'm all wrong, I'm willing to take their word for it.

Thanks for the replies, still trying to figure this city out. Any other advice would be great. Obviously plenty to do.

Do have any more specific questions about Nashville?
Here's some ideas just about Nashville and they are just my opinion so they could be wrong.
Downtown: Condos are being built all around. Come down here if you're a yuppie or empty nester.
East Nashville: It is being gentrified. You see a luxury car and two doors down....is that a crack house?
Bellevue (in West Nashville): Middle Class.
West Meade: Upper Middle Class.
Belle Meade: If you have to ask, you cannot afford it.
Green Hills: Upper Class, Upper Middle Class and people who want to appear to be in the upper middle class.
Old Hickory,Hermitage and Donelson (Eastern part of Davidson County): Working Class to Middle Class. Good family area with good housing deals.
Madison: Bad areas to Middle Class. Have to be sure about the neighborhood and don't be deceived by the low prices. Highest number of sex offenders live here, but there are some nice hidden middle class neighborhoods there.
North Nashville: Predominately African-American area, home of Tennessee State University and Fisk University.
Goodlettsville (North to North East Davidson County): Middle class and it borders Madison. Part of the city (not just the zip code) is in Sumner County.
Joelton: Rural part of northern Davidson County.
Antioch: See Madison. There has been a high influx of immigrants here. Hispanics, Kurds, Somolians, etc... have settled in this area. Crime seems to have risen here and Antioch's reputation has fallen.
Crieve Hall: Neighborhood full of ranch homes from the 1950s and 1960s. Get off I-65 on the Harding Road exit, head west, take a right on Trousdale and you will head in to Crieve Hall.
Forest Hills: Upper Class and maybe some upper middle class.
Brentwood Wannabes/Brantioch (Not actually listed like this on a map. ): You are in Davidson County, but some of these parts have a Brentwood zip code, but you ain't in the city of Brentwood. Exit I-65S and go west on to Old Hickory Blvd. Continue to Nolensville Road where Brantioch ends and Antioch begins. Any neighbohood touching Old Hickory Blvd or Edmondson Pike (that intersects with Old Hickory Blvd) is in Brantioch.
Hillsboro Village/West End/Vandy: Yuppiedom.
Belmont/Waverly: Very nice areas, but some of them are close to some not so nice areas.
Germantown: A very small neighboorhood being gentrified just north of downtown. Very much like East Nashville. You cannot keep any valuables outside at night from what a friend has told me.
Ok, this is a very incomplete list, but I hope it helps.

You didn't mention Mt. Juliet.
My family and I are looking to move to the area from the NE and just want to be sure to find the right area.
Like the family-friendly neighborhoods, but need convenience. Any place else that we are overlooking??
Thanks!!

Thank You
Great, I love it. I am currently back on the west coast, should be making the move in early September. Thank you all for the information. At this time I have no clue, as to where I am going to live. I am a recently divorced, 41, a professional, but not a yuppie, and not a county boy, but I like the country. I am positive, I will fit in well anywhere I go in the Nashville area. You all are so nice.
Have a great day everyone.
