I just ordered a couple of books (online) from Elders Bookstore on Elliston Place in Nashville. Got me thinking - I love used book shoppes, and what better place to ask for recommendations for local book shoppes.

Doesn't necessarily have to be in Nashville, but in the general area.

What's your fav used book shoppe?

blessings, Shen

Default Oh, Honey!

One of my favorite things- book shopping.

My personal favorite is Bookman/Bookwoman in Hillsboro Village, across from Pancake Pantry. Take a bag with you and fill that puppy up.

I also like Landmark Booksellers in Franklin. Lots of rare, out of print, first editions, signed copies, etc. My husband goes there for my birthday. Hits the jackpot every time.

Lots of antique shops carry books now. Just picked up a few on Presidential history in a store across from Monell's in Franklin.

Don't forget half-off stores. There's a great one in Franklin in the Kroger/Staples strip mall just off the Cool Springs exit. I found 2 $14.95 books there last weekend. One was $6.95, the other was $2.99! All new stock.

I hope many more post here. I'd love to find a new place to book-hunt.

Funny, when I first saw the title of this thread I figured you were going to ask where a good used bookstore was in Nashville and I was going to suggest Elder's.

Well, it's definitely one place that I'll be checking out, as well as other places recommended. I do most of my used book shopping online Abebooks.com, Alibre.com, ebay, amazon, etc, but there's nothing like going in person, and going thru the books yourself. Just the smell of a used book store gets me!

blessings, Shen

I love it when the local libraries have their book sales. Fill a bag for (used to be a buck) $5. The librarians are usually amazed at just how many books I can fit into that little ole bag!
Do the libraries there have book sales?

Yep, the library here has book sales. Most of the time it's hardbacks and videos for $2, paperback for $1, and cheap paperbacks for $.50. Sometimes they have a "special" and everything is $1.

By the way, Davis-Kidd is a good local bookstore to visit; not used but still worth a visit.

Why anyone still buys books at Borders, Books-A-Million, or Davis Kidd is beyond me.

Ms. B's Used Books in Hendersonville is the best bookstore in Tennessee, no argument possible. They stay open until 8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and they have just about anything you would ever be looking for, and CHEAP. I got a hardcover Tom Wolfe book ("A Man in Full"), perfect condition, would have set me back $28 at Borders. At Ms. B's? Two dollars.

Tell Ms. B to open a store in Bellevue Mall . . . there's certainly enough empty space she could rent.

I hope you enjoy A Man in Full. For me, it wasn't up there with Wolfe's best. Still, you never know. One person might really enjoy a book, another can barely get through it.

Yes, libraries here have book sales. Brentwood's library has HUGE ones. They're so big that I suspect they sell from other branches there too.
