Default Visiting Downtown

We're planning a short trip to Nashville this weekend and would like to be able to find a place to park downtown for free or really cheap (daytime or nighttime) so that we can spend some time exploring the area. We're looking for something in walking distance of the Ryman, the convention center, etc. Any ideas or suggestions?

Also, any specific recommendations of places to go or things to do in the downtown area would be welcome...restaurants, parks, historic sites or anything else.

Basically, we're trying to get our feet wet with the Nashville area and since we have a free weekend we decided to start our exploration with the downtown area.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Here is a link to a website about parking in downtown Nashville. The map is interactive. If you click on one of the parking "P"s, it will give you the hourly and daily rate. For convenience I like the Sun Trust parking right next to the Ryman but it's $14 for a full day. The Library Lot is $8 a day. I don't think that's too bad?

Here's the website:

Thanks for the reply. I looked through that website and those prices are still a little high for all day parking. Is there any free parking that anyone knows of?

You can park free at the Farmers Market for free IF you can find a space and it will be a bit of a walk in this heat. For walking around on Broadway there is the Frist museum, Hatch Show Print, the Ryman, honky tonks, the river . . . . Good Luck!

Here is where the Farmers Market is. Also there are food vendors in one building that are varied and pretty reasonable:

Whenever I park at the library for events, it's only $4. Also, down by the river, there is a lot and on the weekends it is only $3 to park for the day. There are a few spots down there on the street that you might be able to snag for free or the meters. My experience is they haven't been ticketing on Saturday, but that's just a chance for you to take.
