Default Young healthcare professional moving to Nashville--where to live?

Hello everyone,

I graduated this spring from grad school in Minnesota (born and raised) and will be making the move to Nashville in 3-4 weeks to begin my career. I really have no ties to Nashville so this is all kind of a big 'leap of faith' for me, but I figure--why not? Nothing holding me back, really.

Anyways, I have a job lined up in Springfield, TN but am planning on living in the immediate Nashville area. I realize it's a bit of a drive but I figure I should probably be alright as I will be going largely in the opposite direction of traffic each way each day...out of the city in the morning, towards the city in the evening.

I have been looking at areas such as downtown, Green Hills, Hillsboro, West End, etc. I enjoy going out on the weekends, love country music and love working out 6-7 days/week. I want to be near downtown for its proximity to the nightlife, but am not sure if I'd love the hustle and bustle of being downtown. At the same time, I don't want to be a 15-20 minute drive away from downtown either. I will not know anyone aside from my work colleagues when I make the move, so I will want to be around others in my age range (I'll be 24 in a couple of weeks). I am looking to spend ~$1,000 or less monthly on rent. I originally figured I'd have to live by myself, but I've been scouring craigslist lately with some luck finding potential roommates that seem like a good fit.

Any input on where to look or what would be a good area for me? I'm traveling to Nashville next week to check some places out so I'd like to have a few options to consider.

Thanks for any help!

Historic Germantown/Salemtown might be a good choice. It's an urban neighborhood very near downtown but has a mix of condos and single family homes. It's also on the north side and very accessible to I-24/I-65 for a northbound commute via Rosa Parks or Jefferson St/Ellington Pky. I live in Germantown and commute to Hendersonville for work. It's a pretty hot spot for redevelopment...lots of loft conversions and new condos are being built.

Hello!!! If you want to be close to Downtown and in safe neighborhood, I would look at the Germantown area, Vandy/Hillsboro area, and the Belmot area. You should be able to find a 1/2 bedroom for about $900-1000/month. Make sure you Google Maps Streetview the areas to get a better idea of the neighborhood.

Good Luck!
