Hi Mom...
alot depends on your price range, size of house etc.........Williamson County is well known for their schools...Rutherford County (Mufreesboro) is also very good...
Can you be more specific?

You didn't mention a price range, but if money is no object, then Franklin is probably ideal. It has its own school district and is highly rated. The rest of Williamson County also has excellent schools but is also pricey. I'm not a big fan of Murfreesboro; it's like they decided years ago that they wanted to grow fast and didn't care how. Franklin is also growing quickly but has been able to manage its growth better. I think you'll get more bang for your buck (particularly in relation to the schools) if you stick with Franklin (first choice) or elsewhere in Williamson County (second choice).
Cheatham County is not bad, but it's still fairly rural so I'm not sure if their schools are very well equipped for special needs students. If they are, then someone can correct me.

WELL WISHED MONEY WAS NO OBJECT BUT IT IS were a middle class working family,135 000 to 140 000 would be in our budget right now. Can anyone say somethig about Stewart County my Husband seems to favor this area because of the Lakes and stuff he is an outdoor kinda guy, fishing, hunting ,golfing,or any other area that would meet that budget with a good school district, thanks for taking the time it's always helpfull to hear a persons view that lives there, also wouldn't mine some helpfull hints for Highschool as my daughter is in 10th grade.Personally I would like a place were I can experience small town friendlyness, but still be close to everything. Since here people rather stay to themselfs and hardly take time to be nice everything is fast paste and people are rather rude then taking time for a kind word.Thats part why we picked TN as our retirement spot everyone whom I talked to loved it there and raved about the georges Countryside and kind people.

I just moved to Putnam County (Cookeville) and love it! My son goes to Jere Whitson; I'm extremely impressed with the schools here. Algood has a better system for kids with special needs.

Do you need to be within a certain proximity to Nashville?
I'm echoing what TikaM said. Cookeville is one hour from the Nashville airport, it's got much lower real estate prices than in the Nashville area, it's located between three large lakes, and its schools are excellent. Cookeville High School is one of only 5 high schools in the state with the International Baccalaureate Programme. The school system is very well equipped to accommodate students with special needs.
It's a small town (fewer than 30,000) but is the hub for the region so it has tons of shopping and restaurants that you'd normally not find in a town of that size. It's got tons of things to do for families. It even has a symphony. Having a mid-major state university in town also helps; there's always something going on, lots of live music, theater, art galleries, etc. And the university is NOT a party school--it's the state's university for technology--so you don't have a whole lot of drunken idiots roaming the streets. Students don't go to Cookeville to party.
It's a beautiful area: rolling hills, gorges and valleys, waterfalls, rivers, farms, etc. Boating and fishing are very popular activities. Outdoor sports are common.
There's also a really, really good German restaurant that's opened recently in Cookeville by an older couple (he's German, she's American) who retired after being chefs in Austria and Monaco and now live in Cookeville.
