I used to take the city bus from school to Green Hills in the afternoon. The 7 Hillsboro is a pretty tame bus, even if you are wary of public transportation.

I took the 3 (West End) to and from Vandy for about a year. I am literally the only student I know who did this, despite the fact that it's free for students and employees and you don't need to look for parking. I'd see students who lived 1/2-mile closer to school than me driving in every day -- such a waste.

Nonetheless, this is not a thread about public transit. Sorry.

ya, if I got the house there, I may look at riding my bike if not too cold/hot.

another place I am considering is in Franklin Downs and 96. I was told about 35mins. Maps say to take 106/431 or the 31.

Then another place is in Hendersonville near 31E and 386.

So completely opposite ends, but hville route would take me through downtown and not sure what that would be like. Maps say 30mins, but I doubt it.

Depends on the time fo day you are traveling. Very little traffic if you come down Hillsboro Pike (except Grassland area has back ups when school starts and ends) and the Mall area can have back ups but there are work arounds like cutting down harding to Estes/Bowling to West End.

New Bus service in Vandy area
#3 goes down West End th White Bridge road May be change in frequency?

#5 is the West End Bellevue bus. A lot of students ride this bus. New schedule that has some kinks in it that needs to be adjusted. New weekend & holiday service!

#11 goes from downtown & over to Belmont, passing by the Vandy campus.

Go to the MTA site for details. #3#5#11 share the same timetable.

Similar question to the original poster, do you avoid most of the traffic issues if you are leaving at about 6am and heading home around 6:30pm? We are planning to live in west Franklin and commuting to Vandy as well.

You'll be fine. at 6am no traffic. 6:30 home no traffic. It shouldn't take you more than 30-35 minutes Max at those times.

As long as you hit Grassland before 7:05am going into town and after 6pm you'll have smooth commuting (3:30-5:30 is rough).

In the AM you will be fine at 6 AM but by 6:30 there will be traffic.
In the PM after 6:30 or later will be clearing & fine.

In both cases, you do need to listen to get traffic reports for wrecks or weather delays. In the rain, traffic may be slower but keeps on moving.
There is plenty of congestion from Vandy to I-440 via West End or Hillsboro. A new construction project to add a 3rd lane on I-440 from Nolensville to I-24 may back things up more for the next 2 years.
