Being that we did not make the current listing of "America's Most Dangerous Cities" I would say that the numbers speak for themselves. That's not to say there aren't areas of improvement, because there are.

I think it varies by individual. My church has done door knocking in the projects...and I felt safe. I was a Big Brother for 2 years and my little brother lived in a not so good area...I was ok those two years.

As Nashvols stated, different people will have a different perspective on how safe an area is depending on their experiences, background, and preferences.

I have co-workers from LA and Philly, and trust me, they think Nashville is the Garden of Eden.

I moved from one of the safest suburban parts of the metro (Hendersonville) to an urban transition neighborhood (Germantown). Overall I still feel very safe. The neighborhood associations here are wonderful assets. Someone tried to steal my bicycle (left outside plain view..stupid me) and one of my neighbors called the police and they were there to stop them before they could get away. Anytime anything unusual happens everyone networks with their info and then reports to the police. I've also never had problems at any of the main retail areas but I feel, in general, malls are magnets for petty crimes and keep my guard up in those areas whether it be Cool Springs, Green Hills, or Rivergate.

We're not Mayberry, but we're not Compton either. But we're closer to Mayberry than Compton.

I previously lived in the Philly metro area, then New Haven Connecticut, then Brooklyn NY.

I feel very safe in Nashville

It feels as safe as the inside of a church. I've never felt unsafe in America let alone Nashville. I'm from EUrope, where people will stab you. This place is so safe, so quiet, so neighbourhood driven it's almost claustrophobic.

I live in Murfreesboro and I love it. It's safe and you can find here everything you need. The only bad part: a little far from Nashville. If you have to drive in every day and you aren't ready to sit in the traffic quite often, you need to look for something closer but otherwise, this is a great town.

By the way, I'm from Europe too and yes, there's crime there too but there's also crime in the U.S. I haven't seen a bigger city without crime yet, unfortunately.
