My boyfriend and I will be coming to Nashville on the afternoon on the 24th and spending the night and most of the next day. Staying in the Vanderbilt area. So far we are planning on going to the bluebird cafe but that's it so far. Looking for any reccomendations on fun things to do and especially a good place to have dinner. It doesn't have to be anything fancy or expensive, just good!
Any suggestions are welcome!
Thanks!

What kinds of things are you interested in? Live music? Arts? Nightlife? The Vanderbilt area is a fun part of town...nearby Hillsboro Village for restaurants/nightlife. The Pancake Pantry is located there which draws people from near and far for breakfast and has been featured on the Travel Channel and/or Food Network before. Sam's Sports Bar is a nice watering hole with good bar food. Bosco's is a slightly more upscale place to enjoy handcrafted beer...don't miss their pizzas. There are lots of other restaurants in that immediate area...just do a little homework to see what you're interested in.

I'd recommend checking out Rotier's on Elliston Place for lunch or for a cheap dinner. It's a local institution serving great cheeseburgers, although they have a full menu that is good too.

Up and down West End Avenue you'll find dozens of different restaurants...chains and non-chains. From Indian, Vietnamese, Chinese, Italian, fast food, steakhouses, to American diners. It is probably the most diverse area of town as far as restaurants go. The only bad thing is you will probably have to drive to most of these places as West End is a pretty big thoroughfare...you can walk, but depending on where your hotel it is and where you're wanting to go it might be easier to just drive.

also, if you're in the vandy area, fido would be a good place to check for something to eat as well.

If you want a Southern dining experience, check out Monnells' on 6th Ave North (1 mile north of downtown).

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. All the restaurants and places that have been reccomende so far sound great.
Any Israeli things to do during the day? Not necessarily anything super touristy and cheesy. I'm hoping to eventually move to Nashville within the year and looking for some fun stuff to do or see to get to know the city better.

Non touristy things to do...

-Centennial Park (off of West End Ave...just down the road from where you're probably staying) is a great city park with a full scale replica of the Parthenon. Yes, somewhat touristy, but lots of locals hang here too.
-Frist Center for the Visual Arts has traveling art exhibits (www.fristcenter.org) and will have an Egyptian exhibit probably when you're here.
-Check out areas like East Nashville, 12South, The Gulch, and Germantown while you're here. These are enclaves of urban renewal that have sprung up over the last 15-20 years and are really cool places to hang out and pretend you're a local. I highly recommend the Family Wash in East Nashville. First, its in the middle of a neighborhood so you'll feel like a local. Secondly, they have great food and great local (and immensely talented) music. In the Gulch you'll find lots of hip restaurants and right in the middle is a cinder block building with some of the best live bluegrass around: the Station Inn.
-Yazoo Brewery in the Gulch...visit the taproom and if you're there on Saturday, take a brewery tour. They're our most successful local brewery.
-Hillsboro Village also fits into this mold as a local hangout area as I mentioned before.
-The main tourist areas are on Broadway and 2nd Avenue downtown. It's worth checking out, but if you're going for the "local immersion" thing, you might want to avoid it. Although, many locals hang out from time to time in these areas.

As far as Israeli things...well, I'm not sure what "Israeli things" are. But hopefully that list will help you out some.

I'd also recommend you look at The Nashville Scene website for restaurant reviews and live shows for the upcoming week. Don't miss their "Best of Nashville" issue that is on their website. It's sort of a local's guide to Nashville.

Hahaha. Looking at it now I can't figure out what it means either. Darn auto-correct!
