I dont like the new kids area in the Main St McDonalds, its cramped. Maybe a good thing. We have started going to Hoppity Hop Bounce house on New Shackle instead which is great.

In a semi-related story: I heard that Hendersonville's K-Mart will be closing. And most sadly of all, the Main St. mainstay Bait Shop is closing its doors too. I've gone to the Bait Shop for the last 15 years a few times a year when I go fishing. I hate to see it close.
I hated hearing about the Bait Shop closing. I can't imagine it was due to lack of business. Anyone in Hendersonville who fished (meaning most of the city) was a regular customer.

K-Mart, while I hate to see any business close, doesn't surprise me at all. One of their West Palm stores is closing as well. For years I have wondered how they are still in business anywhere -- and the same goes for Radio Shack.

I'm no fan of KMart, and this one was below average IMO even for that chain. I sensed the staff didn't care about service years ago, far more than even other discount chains. In addition, WAl Mart superstore took a lot of play, not just from KMart, but also I had heard it was a factor in Krogers cutting back from 24 hour store.

Hopefully, that mall can be revitalized, but they must be careful in choosing tenants. With the new shopping available, having inferior stores will simply delay a non-retail use.

I have a child who's a big fan of that place too.

I know...according to the article, the landlord was going up on rent which forced them to close. I suspect someone will come in and fill that void very soon. I just hope it's a mom-and-pop type store like the Bait Shop was and not a chain.

K-mart's closing is sad news, but honestly it's been a dumpy store for the last 10 years. I still go there from time to time for nostalgic reasons, but it was dirty. This is where Hendersonville needs to make a decision. Allow any store to devour the location, like The Dollar Tree taking over Hollywood Video? Or put higher restrictions on it. That's a prime location and that entire center could be great. Too bad there's a Big Lots, K-mart, and Dollar General all right next to eachother.

Has anyone else heard of any new developments in Hendersonville? The Streets of Indian Lake has around eight empty spots and I'm still waiting for September's location to be filled! I know they decided to develop apartments behind Regal Cinemas which is disappointing to me. And there is a city planning meeting about approving an automotive garage to go in-front of Sam's Club.

And now there is also a car wash in the entrance to the shopping center. A very curious zoning decision...I'm not opposed to allowing a car wash, but it just seems like an odd thing to put out in front of a shopping center that desperately needs a facelift, silicone augmentation, and liposuction.

Speaking of Hendersonville closings...truly sad news about The Blue Goose closing its doors after 50+ years. The past 2 years I took my oldest daughter to the Blue Goose for breakfast and then go over to the Bait Shop before we went fishing several times. I'd hoped it would become a tradition for us...now both are out of business.

Between the Blue Goose and the Bait Shop, the old part of Main Street lost 2 of its anchors in the last few weeks. That combined with the loss of Saylor's Pizza a couple of years ago has really changed the landscape of that part of Main St. I have to wonder if the city planners won't use this as an opportunity to "class up" that part of Main St...I know new codes restrictions (all brick facades, limited signage) will eventually help clear it up, but that part of Hendersonville has always looked very cluttered to me.

I guess it's better than an empty building, and honestly, I can't think of anything better that would be willing to fill such a horrible location.

The K-Mart shopping center would have to be bulldozed and re-built from scratch for a decent tenant to fill that slot. Not only is it aesthetically horrendous, but the other main tenants are Big Lots, Dollar General, and a pawn shop. Even TJMaxx or Marshalls would be way too high class to join that group.

Approving the Dollar Tree was in the planning commission's agenda in November. I can't confirm that it was ever approved, but looking at LoopNet - #1 in Commercial Real Estate Online, I can see that the Hollywood Video is no longer for lease. I'd assume they are going to go there.

And I totally agree about the K-mart center. With an old Burger King, old mexican restaurant (I enjoy it though), and now a car wash, it will be hard to redo that center. Especially with every store in the center being bargain based. It would take a tornado to help it out.
