Just read in the Nashville Scene that Megabus has started up here, which is great. At the moment it just goes to Chattanooga and Atlanta. Maybe at some point it will go to Cincinnati??? (fingers crossed). At least one seat on each trip is only $1 and I saw a LOT of $1 seats when I checked out the website. There is Wifi on the bus, too.

I wouldn't mind going to Atlanta just for a night, just a little get away, and having someone else drive . . .

megabus.com | Now serving over 12 million bus customers in North America

A friend of mine takes it from Milwaukee to Chicago I think. I wish we had train service. Anyway, might be good news for someone? College kids in Chattanooga??

This is a great new service for Nashville. I'm looking forward to weekend excursions to Chattanooga. Can't wait to try it.

I'm going to Chattanooga on 12 10 with Megabus. If I remember I'll post up how it went!

Also as an FYI a trip to Washington DC from Knoxville TN is $20 one way, that's a great price! It's a direct ride w/one stop that's mandatory for the driver to take a break.

Awesome! My family lives near Chattanooga, and I'm looking to live in Nashville.

How do these companies make money when only charging $1???? Is this just a temporary promotional deal? The Milwaukee/Chicago bus route looks to be about $12.

Can anyone comment on their experience using this bus line?

I have heard good things about it. The $1 is a promotional fare - it has gotten more press making a money losing run to Atlanta than you could buy in advertising. I believe there will ALWAYS be one seat on every run that only cost $1 and the closer to get to the date of travel, probably the higher the fare? Just like the airlines.

DUSTIN, do report back!

Between the price of gas, the wear and tear on the car, and the wear and tear of just driving all that way, the bus sounds like the way to go - even if you use a taxi at the other end to get where you need to be.

Just found a link to the MAP:

http://us.megabus.com/routemap.aspx

Click on the city to see where you can get the bus to go. (click blue RESET button in lower right hand corner of map to change city) If you go to Atlanta from here you can get all the way to Orlando on connecting service (although you might have to overnight in Atlanta. If you go to Chattanooga, and then to Knoxville (connecting service) you can get all the way to DC. I don't think this is the fastest way to get anywhere BUT you can't beat the price!

The only problem is you are limited to 50 lbs and I think 62 inches? Here is the blurb:

"megabus.com does not check luggage or provide receipts for luggage transported on the bus by the passenger. Customers are advised that megabus.com will accept up to ONE (1) piece of luggage per passenger. For guidance this must not exceed 62 inches when adding the total exterior dimensions of the piece (length + width + height) and should not weigh more than 50 pounds. Passengers can also take on board one (1) small carry-on bag that wil fit in the overhead storage compartments or under the seat. Please be advised that passengers wishing to travel with more luggage than specified above will have items refused"

That is fantastic news. I've been on a Megabus many times around the midwest and it is a good, quality, reliable and clean transportation service
