I have a corporate holiday party to attend. It was booked at the Millennium Maxwell House Hotel. The event used to be at a hotel right off Broadway where there were tons of places within walking distance. Now I am wondering were we can go before the event for cocktails and if there is any place fairly nearby for an after party (involving music/dancing/pool tables or karaoke)... Any ideas?

Is City House appropriate for just cocktails, no food before hand? (like 6-7 pm on a Thursday?)

You could try Germantown Cafe for some drinks (I don't know how their cocktails are...I'm a beer guy). I can't think of anything involving pool tables or karaoke in that area.

There's pretty much literally nothing within walking distance of that hotel.

There's nothing I would want to walk to around that hotel.

The restaurants in Germantown are not within walking distance of that hotel.

During the day, you could walk to Arby's, eat a sandwich, and then walk a little farther north and buy a Saab.

Well, it's all relative. It would realistically be a 20-25 minute walk from the hotel to the Germantown Cafe. That could be a pleasant jaunt in, say, Manhattan...On Rosa Parks you're talking about 20-25 minutes of sparse fast food places and a highway overpass. Probably not advisable.

I wouldn't walk....and I would recommend City House for cocktails. They have some really unusual ones with some unique ingredients. It's a little pricey. We do just have drinks there on occasion...although their food is awesome as well. As for the after party....I think you're going to have to drive somewhere for that too.

Just get a cab for the 3 minute ride to the heart of downtown a few streets up. Tootsies is a good choice.
