Smile Smyrna vs Franklin

My family and I are relocating from Illinois to the Nashville area. We have a five year old who is in kindergarten here, so good schools are a must! We have dogs and cats. (We used to show papillions) Friends have recommended Franklin or Smyrna because we love historic areas. Ideally, we're looking for a Victorian or old farmhouse. Are these unrealistic demands for either city? I haven't been to the area in over ten years, so I imagine everything has totally changed. Our price range is $250-$400,000. I'm excited to move back to Tennessee but I have no idea what to expect!
