Antioch business district
I am a chiropractor who is considering taking a job in the Hickory Hollow Mall area in Antioch. I live in St. Petersburg, Fl currently. Can anyone give me some information about that area of Antioch. I have read that crime, gangs, and illegals have caused Antioch to be a less desireable place to be but there are still some nicer areas. I do not plan to live there, my fianc'e and I want to live in Green Hills, Murfreesboro, or Bellevue, but what are your views on the business aspect of the Hickory Hollow area and having a practice in that location. Any information in regards to healthcare, avg family household income, crime, chiropractors, and other businesses would be very helpful. Have a blessed day.

I would say that the Hickory Hollow area is a terrible place to start a business practice. The mall is going down faster than Paris Hilton, and most new businesses that are springing up in that corridor are check cashing joints, pawn shops, and discount beer/tobacco stores. Illegals and gang members are running the show in Antioch. Home values in Antioch are some of the lowest in Davidson County, and it is one of the few areas in Middle Tennessee where they're actually going DOWN rather than up. Is there any particular reason you're choosing this area for your practice?

If I were moving back to Nashville, Antioch would probably be last on my list of places to live, play or work. Just too dangerous, IMO.

I am not starting a business there. I am considering a job offer in an already established practice in that area. I would not live there either, I would probably look to live in Murfreesboro, West Meade, or Bellevue. I just have been doing as much research on that location as possible because it is a big relocation for me. There does seem to be alot of businesses in that area including healthcare/dental/chiropractic, salons, the mall, grocery stores etc. I just heard that some parts of Antioch were better than others and was wondering if Hickory Hollow is in a good part or bad part?

Wasn't there an attempted shooting at Hickory Hollow Mall last year?
I think that's when the mall mgt put a curfew into effect.
You couldn't pay me to go to the mall area, its just not worth it.

Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 29 , 2006
The shoplifting suspect shot during a scuffle with a Tennessee State Trooper in the parking lot of Hickory Hollow Mall Thursday night is identified as a 21-year-old Tennessee State University student from Las Vegas, Nevada. Efforts are continuing to locate his next of kin in Nevada. He is in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Trooper Aussie Thaxter, 41, who fired his state-issued gun one time, was treated at Vanderbilt for injuries sustained when he was dragged by the suspect’s car. He was released during the night.
Thaxter was working an off-duty security job at Dillard’s department store in a THP utility uniform when he was notified by an employee of a suspiciously acting man in the men’s department who was carrying several designer shirts and said he would be paying for them in another area of the store. While in Thaxter’s view, the man fled from the store to the parking lot carrying the shirts. Thaxter gave chase and ordered him to stop.
The man got into a Plymouth Breeze sedan that was backed into a handicapped parking space. As the suspect started the motor, Thaxter reached into the car through the open door in an effort to turn off the ignition. He was unsuccessful and the suspect put the car in gear and began to pull away with Thaxter still partly inside. Thaxter was dragged for about 20 yards before he managed to fire a shot. The suspect was hit in the neck and Thaxter fell to the pavement. The Plymouth continued on, entered a bank parking lot and came to rest against the bank building. A Metro officer who was in the mall was told of the commotion and rushed to the bank parking lot. He immediately radioed for an ambulance.
The investigation into the shooting is being headed by the Metro Police Department’s Homicide Unit. The THP’s Criminal Investigation Division, the TBI and an investigator from the District Attorney’s Office are assisting. The full investigative report will be forwarded to District Attorney General Torry Johnson for review when it is complete.

It seems like there was always something going on in that area, crime wise that is. I used to love that mall back in the mid 90s, but just wouldn't do it.

I go to the Hickory Hollow area fairly often and have never feared for my safety. Then again, I grew up in an area much worse.
I wouldn't hesitate on taking a job in that area. There are other shops there that haven't been mentioned, like a Best Buy, Circuit City, coffee shops, etc. If you have any hint of street smarts you'll be fine.
Could you be robbed or carjacked? Possibly, but that could also happen in Brentwood or Belle Meade (although not likely).

I lived in Nashville for several years and worked just outside of Antioch. While there may still be some "nice parts" of Antioch left - the Hickory Hollow mall area is NOT one of them. Infact that is the worst part of Antioch and it gets nicer the further away from it you go. I have noticed buisnesses in that part of the city are no longer there or are struggling. Murfreesboro is nice and growing a lot from what I hear, Vandy area is nice if you can aford it. Nashville real estate is very tricky if you are not familiar with the area because the nice parts are interspurced with the bad parts. Good luck with your search- hope this info helps some.

Tell us your story... what happened to you in Antioch that has made it so bad for you? Your comments are overzealous and unrealistic.
