Hello!

I am in my early 20's and looking to make a move from Georgia to Nashville. I don't have any children or pets, graduated last spring with a B.A. in Mass Communication and looking to start my life in a new place.
Of course, with anything in life it takes research and planning. I wanted to gather some opinions from people who live in Nashville on a few things:

1) What is the feel of the city? Big or small town.

I've lived in Atlanta and would describe the city more as a small town city feel. If anyone has visited Atlanta or made the move to one place or the other I would appreciate your input

2) What do you like best about Nashville? What do you dislike?

3) Honestly, how do you feel about the job market in Nashville?

4) Do you feel there are a good number of things to do in Nashville for young adults? (i.e. night life, museums, events, local hangouts)

You don't have to answer all of these questions. I prefer honest and well thought out answers in one area as opposed to attempting every question.
If you can provide input with all of these question, please know your input is valued.

Thank you for your time!

The metro population of Atlanta is 3 1/2 times more than Nashville...So if you thought Atlanta felt small town, Nashville is more like an isolated village.

Honestly, unless you live Downtown or in some denser areas of the West End, Nashville feels like a big suburb to me. My neighborhood is 2 1/2 miles from Downtown and it consists of separate little bungalows with no sidewalks and no commercial district for a mile and a half. The main "business districts" in Nashville are "pikes" that radiate out of the city center and, pretty much uniformly, turn into collections of strip malls within a mile of downtown. (This is as true for the "nicer" pikes like Harding/West End and 21st/Hillsboro as it is for the "rougher" or "transitioning" ones like Gallatin, Murfreesboro, or Dickerson).

Don't take my word for it, though -- I'm an East Coast malcontent.

Thanks for the reply. Nashville has appeared in multiple articles as a place for grads to consider moving to and the size of the area is something to consider.

This West Coast malcontent thinks we should get together for a cocktail when I get there!

1) Small town. It's going take another 10 years before Nashville begins to resemble a large city.

2)
Likes:
-Fairly easy to afford a place that gives you short a commute.
-Mild winters
-City's leadership "get it" which isn't typical for the south

Dislikes:
- Outside of West End and other core areas, relatively few smart/motivated people.
- Surprisingly little to do, other than bars.
- Summers can really suck.

3) Do you work in healthcare? If so, the job market is good. Other than that, there is relatively little opportunity. Better off in Atlanta.

4)
Bars - yes
Music - surprisingly, hit or miss.
Museums - nope.
Local hangout - yes.

Visit 365 Nashville. It lists things to do every day in Nashville. Even they're often stumped to find things, naming things like "Make a New Year's Resolution!", "Visit the Bathroom at the Hermitage Hotel! "

Just not a lot to do.

I disagree with the above post and find that that there is lots to do in Nashville. How can you say NOPE to museums? The Frist and Cheekwood are both great facilities. If someone is bored, it's pretty much their own fault, in my book. You really need to make things happen, you can't just sit around waiting for FUN to knock on your door. Anyway, Nashville is not Atlanta, by any means, but it's a great place to live, very laid back and friendly. Atlanta is 5 hours away. I've driven there and back in a day. You could easily go there for a weekend if you missed it.

BUT, you should really make a visit here and see for yourself. None of us are exactly in your shoes.

Nashville is a "small town" yeah right! It may not be a large city but its certainly not a "small town". Silly comments like that hurts the credibility of your entire post.
