Hello to all with suggestions for me and my family, we are from a small town in Illinois and we are thinking about moving to the Hendersonville area. We would like to buy a home in the 150-175k range. Is this possible and what about the schools? I have a 13 year old son who enjoys sports and band. We are in our early 40's and like to go out for dinners and quite walks in the evening. How is the economy in this area this is a huge concern considering we are a ways off from retiring which is sad. Please give us some advice. Thanks J.

Do a search on this site REALTOR.com - Real Estate Listings & Homes For Sale and it will give you an idea on what you can find here in Hendersonville. I don't have any school age kids to know how the schools are so someone else will have to give you that info. We are also retired so I can't help you with job info.........sorry. I can tell you that there is a lot of construction going on. |

kas1675, I visited Nashville several times in May/June this year. I had only been to the states once before and that was to Philly in Feb '06 (never been so cold!), i wanted to see more and was thinking for over a year about maybe living in the states for a while.
I had my eye on Virginia and was going to spend 6 weeks seeing that state but because my brother wanted to come and the fact he had an English friend living in southern Indiana we decided to expand the trip. Due to the best flights we decided on starting and finishing in Charlotte, NC. We visited Nashville three times, we had to go to Nashville as it is a transport hub. We used Greyhound (never again!) and saw all the major TN cities or at least went through them all and some of the deep south as far down as Savannah,GA and Tuscaloosa, AL (i think that's how you spell it?) We loved Nashville, the culture, music, food, people, accents, the space. My brother stayed for a week with his friend and i did some city hopping from St Louis to Chicago to Milwaukee to Mineapolis to Des Moines to Omaha to Kansas City back to St Louis (saw my first baseball game!) and then back to Indiana. 7/8 Cities & 6 states in under 7 days with a little backpack! On the way back we went through Nash again saw some concerts (Brad Paisley!) then through Georgia, Atlanta (worst place), Savannah, Charleston (beautiful) NC, VA... to D.c (didn't like) back down through VA to Charlotte. just under 6 weeks of travel, 19 buses, 9 trains took it's toll but came out of the trip looking forward to going back to Nashville. But i didn't get the chance to see any residential areas which is why i am going back this Oct to find out , just this time not as a tourist. I didn't like Memphis but loved Nashville so i can't say all Tennessee is great but from what i have seen it's cheap (maybe not as cheap as Florida), great culture, history and people. I am 22, lived in Southern England my whole life and even if it's for a few years i would love to live in Nashville. I like my sport, Soccer, Tennis, Football.. you name it... Nashville has it and from what i have researched H'ville is great for sport too... go Titans! On my travels i realised how big and great America is, how nice the people can be, how a car is essential and how humid Virginia is! From the bad points which there are a few, the good points shine through. |

I was also wondering about Hendersonville. Been checking on Cookeville but also liked that Hendersonville was right near a lake and not too far from a big city. To be more specific can anyone tell me (and others) about:
Availablity of good Dr's Schools (I'm interested in middle & high) High Speed Internet Service What major stores - mall Motor vehicle dept - is it awful? Long lines? Recreation - YMCA, theaters, roller skating, tennis courts, pools, designated lake swim? Is that enough Any info would be much appreciated. |

I haven't lived here very long but I'll do my best to answer. Good Drs......I'm healthy so I don't go to them but I believe they're opening up the Sumner Medical Center (or something like that) which would mean they'll be needing good doctors. Schools........I don't have school age kids. High Speed Internet........I have comcast and it's great! Shopping and Malls........I hate shopping but my dauhter in law loves to shop and she's happy. Motor vehicle dept.........I was there once and it wasn't busy at all. Recreation...........I've been told by several people that we have a great YMCA and have everything else you mentioned. My husband and I love Old Hickory Lake. We have a 24' deck boat here at our dock and a houseboat at a local marina which we may or may not take out on a week-end depending on the amount of fun we're having with the other dock people. Basically we came here to have a summer home and loved it so much we went back to Arizona and sold our other house to live here full time. Good luck where ever you decide. |
