Default A good place to rent near to WholeFoodMarket and 30 min drive to Smyrna

Hi all,

We will be moving from AL to TN in 3 weeks. My husband will be working at Smyrna. I plan to attend the Japanese class for adult at 222 French Landing Dr, Nashville, TN 37228- unless I can find a class somewhere else that nearer to Smyrna.
We like to shop for organic food so I thought about staying near to the whole food market at 4021 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville, TN.
And last is finding a good daycare for my 2.5 yrs old daughter.

Our rent budget is $1200 max. I see good reviews about Royal Arms but they are full now. Would you recommend gazebo apartments ?
Any other places that I should look into?

Thank you so much,
NY

There also is a Whole Foods market on McEwen Drive in Cool Springs/Franklin, and there are a lot of nice apartments in that area that would fit in your budget.

Then if you lived in that area your husband could take scenic back roads all the way to Smyrna. He could drive Clovercroft Road to Nolensville, then either Rocky Fork or Burkitt Road on over to Smyrna.

Just an idea ...

This thread includes an exhaustive discussion of apartments in that area.

Hi Wmsn4Life,

Thanks very much for your reply.
I actually checked the properties you mentioned in the link before and crossed them off the list because I heard the traffic is really bad there especially when we have to get on I65 to go to downtown and Smyrna.

I really like the distance 18 min to Smyrna and 12 min to the language school at downtown 10 min to the wholefood market if we lived at the gazebo apartment at 141 Neese Dr, Nashville, TN 37211.

However, I read bad reviews about this apartment and it seems the location is unsafe and the apartment is very old with lots problem? so I might have to cross it off from the list.

I'm now looking closely to the following places. Do you know if the traffic/ commute time calculated below are correct or much more worse?
My husband is okay to drive within 40 min to Smyrna but I don't drive very well so locations near to the wholefood store, day care and the language school is important for me. Thanks again for your help!

You may just want to check out how much organic and natural foods can be found at regular groceries like Publix and the Kroget marketplace stores. They have a good selection and you can supplement with occasional trips to Whole Foods. That's what I did because even if I lived near a whole foods the insane crowds would probably keep me from doing my everyday type of shopping there.

From the Whole Foods store in Green Hills you can go around the corner to Trader Joe's. Actually, TJ moved into the store WF left on Hillsboro.

Don't know where you shop but you can get a selection of organics & naturals at Kroger, Publix & Harris Teeter. sometimes it helps to know the organic/natural brands & compare store for pricing. For some items you may like the store brand product.

Regardless of which complex you choose, you're going to have a long drive to Smyrna. The Japanese school is located in an area commonly known as MetroCenter. It's a long drive from all these places, but it's not terribly difficult if you're going during off hours and right off the interstate.

Proximity to Whole Foods would be my least important priority. Based on your list, I would choose either Alara Farms or Wyndchase Aspen Grove. There's a reason the rent is higher there. They are very nice and close to amenities.

Thank you all for your input. We will be visiting the area in a few days.
I checked walkscore.com and just realized that the gas cost just for my husband to commute to Smyrna is around $800 a month so factor that with mine the rent now approximately $2300 a month

I also looked for a day care for my 2.5 yrs old girl and the average cost is $1000 a month and they not feed her lunch (?) I'm very surprised with the high cost here vs AL and GA while the salary seems to be the same.

Do you know any good reasonable daycare near to the above locations?
I also need to find a good pediatrician for her.

Thank you again very much!

Wait ... $800 a MONTH? How are you calculating that amount?

What does he drive, a Hummer?

That is the primary reason I suggested not basing your home search on proximity to a Whole Foods. Many more groceries sell organic nowadays, and if you lived closer to the job you could save on gas.

Is the French Landing address the ONLY place you can attend the Japanese class?

Also, is there a chance your husband's job will offer a flexible spending account where you can take out pre-tax money to pay for day care? That is partly how we paid for twins in day school.

I know that the TFLI is probably the largest language school in the area but you may also want to check out the Japanese Consulate in Nashville. They may offer classes or know of other locations.

Hi Wmsn4life,

I just put in the apt address to his work address and walkscore calculated it
Commute Report, Transportation Costs, and Commuting Apps for 3100 Aspen Grove Drive Franklin TN 37067 to 802 Stewart Valley Drive Smyrna TN 37167

They said it is calculated based on:

Estimate based on:
Hours per month: 31
Miles per month: 1285
Cost per Mile: $.69
Total Cost: $889
