A red Light District and a downtown that isn't soley focused on country music. If Nashville had these two things Id say our city status would skyrocket.

But seriously, why isn't there a red light district here? It seems like cities with a RLD attract 1000s of more tourists. The crowd will make this town a lot more fun. Just my 2 cents.

what you want a district that traffics women and children that have been sold into the sex trade? This might be the one time I live in the buckle of the bible belt.

Seriously, there are places you can get that, if that's what you're into. Apparently Vegas is the "new" hub, with all the business travelers and conventioneers eager to leave their alter egos in Vegas.

And a red-light district isn't something you can just start up, like a theme park. They have to be authentic, sorta like Bourbon Street before it became a grosser version of Gatlinburg.

I remember when Beale Street was like that: authentic, gritty, not a tourist attraction.

And surely you have heard about the many other types of music available in downtown Nash.

Actually, Nashville used to have a red light district. Lower Broadway, in the same block as Ernest Tubb's, used to be full of sex shops and adults-only stores. There were other sex shops and strip clubs on the fringes of downtown, many of which had big billboards along the interstates including one which advertised itself as the "world's largest adult bookstore" and included theaters that played porn 24/7.

I'm glad they're gone.

JMT, the "World's Largest Adult Bookstore" is still alive and well, believe it or not.

No, Nashville does not need to be known as having a red light district, IMO. I can't see the city planners mapping that one out, can you? "What this town needs is more skin. Let's put it on 8th Ave right next to the Southern Baptist HQ."

There seem to be enough strip joints and adult oriented shops around town to meet current demand. Now, I could see there being one pop up fairly close to the new convention center eventually, but I doubt Mayor Dean had that in mind when he pushed for the center to be opened. Conventions seem to attract that type of behavior sometimes, so I wouldn't be shocked if an adult establishment doesn't capitalize on the proximity to the new center eventually.

People come to Nashville for entertainment, but I doubt they'll ever come here for that kind of entertainment. Not when the entire state of Nevada is still around.

Oh my, I'm sad to hear that the "world's largest adult bookstore" is still there! I guess I never noticed it because when I drive through Nashville, I always take the northern interloop around downtown so I can see the Titans stadium.

I have to admit, this thread threw me for a loop. It's not unusual to hear people wish that Nashville had things like IKEA, more upscale shopping, non-stop flights to Europe, etc., but this is the first time I've ever heard anyone wish that Nashville had more nudey bars and strip clubs.

If the "Things Nashvillians Would Never Say" thread were still open, I think "We need a red light district" would be a good addition to it.

SoBro south of the Korean Veterans Blvd is still fairly seedy with strip clubs, adult bookstores and sketchy night clubs scattered around it. The Music City Center will probably eventually be the nail in the coffin for most of those businesses though.
