Please advise as to employment in Nashville
Hello. I am a Hoosier who is seeking to potentially start over personally and professionally in Nashville.
I have visited a few times and had previously lived in South Carolina so the geographic change isn't much of a change as I am still three hours from family.
My biggest hurdle at this point is finding employment aside from the normal venues of Careerbuilder (through the Tennessean), Monster, and Craigslist. Are there any well recommended companies and organizations that those from Nashville could recommend?
My background is in the area of mediation and paralegal work but would be open to suggestions. I also have a M.A. in Christian Counseling (non-mental health).
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you all!

My suggestion is to forget the Tennessean, Craiglist, and Monster. And I'm not being trying to be funny.
Find out where you would like to work and apply. If you can, try to make a contact with someone at each of those places.

Companies
Alleycat,
Thanks for your reply and suggestion. I have googled various searches, but am having a hard time connecting with a list of companies. Not being able to frequent Nashville enough, I am not familiar with some of the better paying organizations. Is there any link or resource on the net you can suggest?
Thanks.

I can easily get you a list of the largest law firms in the area. Also, maybe a list of non-profits that offer counseling. And (I hate to mention this), there's one of the Christian organizations in town that is always advertising on TV to hire "Christian counselors"--one of those TV ministries, I believe.

list
Boy you are quick on the draw with the replies Alleycat, thanks.
Yes, a list would be most appreciated. Why are you hesitant to mention a Christian TV organization in Nashville? Do they have a bad reputation and can you name it?

I'm sitting here alternating between using the computer for work, looking in on the City-Data forum, watching the NASCAR race, and petting a sleepy cat. I'm a multi-tasking kind of guy. ;-)
I'll get you the list tomorrow. I have a copy of the Nashville Business Journal Book of Lists 2007 at the office. It lists all sort of firms, businesses, and organizations in Nashville.
I can't actually remember the name of the ministry looking for phone people. I don't know anything about them but I usually have a very poor opinion of TV ministries. The next time I see one of their commercials I'll try to jot down the name. I doubt they'll be advertising on the NASCAR race however. Maybe a Budweiser ad. ;-)

List, Nascar, Cat, and Multi-Tasking
Thanks for gathering the info for me. It is much appreciated. Boy, you Nashville Southerners are much more helpful than a lot of Hoosiers I know.
I didn't realize a Book of Lists like that existed.
Well, I am a Christian, but I certainly can empathize with your opinion and perception of evangelists....there are many out there that give Christianity and spirituality a bad name. I have encountered some bad ones myself, and tend to focus on my own relationship with God.
Anyway, thanks again for all your help..enjoy the race..and it looks like the Colts are nailing the Titans.... ..Have a great remaining weekend!

I didn't think I could stand to watch the Colts game. We should have kept Peyton in Tennessee.
Yeah, the Book of Lists is good for looking up certain information. You can buy one, but it's a little pricey.
There used to be a guy on TV named Ernest Anglia (or something like that). It looked like a Saturday Night Live skit.
The cat is taking a nap. I think I'll join her.
