Cultural diversity and employment
We are a family of Latin American origin (born in the US) and are thinking of relocating to Nashville from Beaufort, SC. The town that we are now living in is very closed minded and culturally stunted. Our teenagers are having a difficult time fitting in because they are global thinkers. My husband is a Master craftsman in woodworking and a professional bass player(Beaufort has no music scene) and I am a mental health counselor. We need to live in a place that is stimulating and cultural diverse. Any suggestions? THANK-YOU!

If I remember correctly, Nashville has a Latin American population of somewhere around 6%. Unfortunately, the terms Latin American/illegal/Mexican/Hispanic are synonymous with many here. I wouldn't doubt that is common in many places, maybe even where you are from. Maybe I just notice it more b/c my wife is Latin American, but there seems to be a lot of anger towards the Latin American community. In no way does that mean you would not make friends and a decent living here.

You'll find that a little bit everywhere, but I would say middle TN, Nashville in particular, is fairly culturally diverse. However, despite it progressive exterior, Nashville still has plenty of the "good 'ole boy" mentality going on.
I've never heard of where you're from, but it sounds like you might fit in more in Nashville. There would definitely be a bigger music scene for your husband to experience.

There are quite a few Hispanic gangs in Nashville that have been brought because of 'diversity'. They are fighting it out with the Black and Kurdish gangs. Diversity -- we all benefit.

It's stuff like this that gives Tennessee a really bad name..
familyminded, Middle Tennessee has a larger hispanic population then 6% even if that is the statistic. There are many majority hispanic communities in the area including South Nashville along Nolensville rd. and the areas along Murfreesboro Rd. between I-24/I-40 and Antioch. Also, if you're looking for more of a country atmosphere, try Murfreesboro or Shelbyville. Hope this helped, Don't mind stupid commets from narrowminded people, there are good people in Tennessee but it's a majority of why I'm personally headed to Texas.
Good luck !

You're right, there are certainly fewer commets in Texas than in Tennessee.

Texan, if you look at that poster, Join date, Sept , and a Rep of 30. I think the person came from the NJ board. They are mean there. I used to live there so know,
Getting back to the topic , my next door neighbor is Hispanic(South America) and he is a realtor. he is active in our home owners association and no one here would think less than him because he's hispanic. His mom made me a hispanic treat, so at Thanksgiving I made them Lasagna. I am in the Brentwood Area.
