Please help trying to relocate in two months
How I was wondering if anyone had any good information on the areas in Nashville? I am moving from Memphis and trying to seek resident in Nashville area. I have visited a few times trying to find employment and a nice area for apartment. I am a Bethel College graduate with a BS in Organizational Management currently doing human resources assistant work. I don't have a job line up yet nor a place to stay. Can anyone give me tips on a good area with schools because I have a daughter in the 8th grade? And also some good tips on employment. This will be a hard move to do but it must be done. I am not looking to move in the high end areas of Nashville or the surrounding counties but a safe area as possible. Also I can use some information on the hotels that provided the extended stay. I am thinking about staying there until I can find employment and later an apartment.

Having the daughter in the eighth grade makes it more difficult to give you recommendations.
First, a few questions. What is the maximum time you would want to commute? Second, would you be okay with moving to a location for a year or two; then, when you're daughter was older, moving to a location with a better high school? The trouble with Metro Nashville is the public high schools (there are a few good one, some poor ones, and some downright bad ones). Do you like more urban, more suburban, or more rural living?

Thanks alleycat, I am willing to commute at least 30 minutes to and from home. Yes I am definitely ok with moving to a better location after a year or two. Right now I am willing to go in either urban, suburban and rural living. I am just trying to get out of Memphis and can't afford my daughter being here. She is out of town right now until I get out of Memphis. So any information that you have will be useful. I need employment as well as good and safe area. But a good school is always helpful too.

Of course, we can only give you a rough idea since you don't know where you'll be working. If you trying to stay within a 30 minutes commute, that means staying either within Metro Nashville or not too far out in one of the surrounding counties (unless you happen to go to work in some place like Brentwood).
I just throw out one idea for you (since I'm most familiar with it): Bellevue. There's quite a few apartments; it's a clean, safe area; the middle school is okay I think (I don't have kids, so I don't keep with schools that closely; however I see the kids from the middle school all the time when I go to the library or community center and they seem like a pretty nice group of kids overall); it's convenient to most other areas of town (except maybe the airport); it's not the cheapest place to live, but it's not the most expensive either. The older kids in Bellevue go to Hillwood High School; it's one of the better high schools in Metro, but you would have to look into it more closely to see whether it's acceptable when your child got older.
There are other areas that would work for you as well. That was just one possibility.

Another better school in Metro Nashville is John Overton HS. where students from Brentwood, Davidson County go. My daughter went there for her senior year. There are lots of Apartments off Edmonson Pike , off Old Hickory Blvd.
The problem with temporary housing would be registaring your daughter in school. They wew pretty strict about proving where you live. When I moved in Last July and tried to registar my daughter for Overton, they wanted a utility bill. That I did not have Yet. I went home and grabbed my closing Statement on my home. First, they said well you could be renting it out, but when I replied that where was I going to live then because I sold my previous home in another state. I told them I bought the house to live in not rent.
Check Craigs list for rentals also and Jobs craigslist: nashville classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events
Also for Jobs check classified of Nashville, Tennessee news from The Tennessean, Tennessean.com - MUSIC CITY U.S.A

Thanks Diane Giam, I will check craigslist and see what I come up with. I thought about that as well. So I guess first things first is trying to find employment so I can get a place to stay.

I live in an apartment in the Croft Middle School and Overton HS zone. Croft Middle is a magnet middle and one of the better schools in Metro. The apartments are VERY reasonable and spacious. I don't know the availability but could find out if you're interested. I am a single parent with a young daughter and moved to this neighborhood b/c it was convenient, safe and I liked the schools. Contact me if you want further information. Hope this helps.

yes JerzeeGrl I would like to have more information on this. I am looking to move around the first of December and really trying to narrow down an area to go to so I can bring my daughter to live with me. I am coming up there next weekend and would like some directions as well to where this area is located.
