Hi everyone! I'm currently finishing up my junior year of UCLA and so am starting to figure out my plans for when I graduate. I know I want to move to Nashville and try to get a job in the Music Industry. I've lived in California my entire life so the whole moving thing is a totally new experience for me. Here's some questions that I have about making the big transition.

1. I'm pretty sure I'm coming down to visit with my mom in December to get accustomed to the place. The problem is I have two younger sisters (ages 6 and 3) who we would have to leave with family until we got back so my mom doesn't want to stay too long. How long do you think someone should visit a place that they're likely to move to?

2. On my visit, is there anything in particular you would suggest that I make sure to see?

3. What neighborhoods would be the best place for a 21/22 year old (i.e. inexpensive, safe, friendly, etc.)

4. I'm pretty sure I'm going to start looking for a job sometime in the middle of my senior year. Do you have any advice about when and where to look (whether it be specific companies or just methods of looking)?

5. Basically any other advice you think would be good to know.

Thank you for your help!! I really appreciate it =)

I would answer your question but im busy watching the Laker game :P

Im originally from Nashville but I live in the Bay Area now. I would say Some goo neighborhoods to check out are East Nashville, West End, Sylvan Park, The Gulch, Hillsboro Village, Belmont, Vandy area, Germantown, and Salemtown. These are the young and urban areas of town. EN, Gtown and Stown can be gritty in same parts though. The Gulch is the most expensive out of all these, but its much cheaper than anything similar in California.

Understandably there is a lot of competition for 'jobs in the music industry' here in Nashville. Do you have a degree or some experience that will help you stand out? Pretty sure you'd have to BE here to find an entry level job, unless of course, you have some connections or unique skills.

I have been able to get a 'feel' for a place pretty quickly and have made several moves based on less then 48 hours. But if you've never been out of So Cal it could be a bit of a culture shock for you. But it's not like being here two weeks will change a first impression.

Maybe a long weekend? 3 nights? People here are friendly. Traffic is a lot less hectic than LA. It's greener here. You don't want to see touristy things, or do you? I think talking to people who live here . . the waiter in the restaurant, the check out gal at Publix. People really make the place, I think?

A friend of mine visited from the Northeast and said she felt a huge difference just in the Nashville airport. Good luck to you!
