All things considered, given that the Nashville metro is about 1/3 the size of the ATL...

Any of you that have lived and/or traveled/spent time in both, please chime in!

Thanks!

I've never lived in Atlanta, but I've traveled through a number of times. I can really only give you my experience with their interstate system.

Atlanta's freeways are far more crowded than Nashville's, despite being considerably wider. Nashville definitely has some bottlenecks that cause some major problems (I-24 @ I-40, I-440, I-65 around Briley Pkwy around the north side, I-65 south @ Highway 96, and most of the downtown loop), but for the most part, Nashville traffic is a cinch compared to Atlanta. It doesn't last as long, and doesn't have the same volume.

I can't speak for Atlanta's surface streets, but most of Nashville's are fine except for a few major intersections, and at a number of interstate junctions. From my experience, some of the worst are Hillsboro Rd from I-440 to Green Hills, Thompson Ln @ Nolensville Rd, and Old Hickory Blvd from I-65 to Nolensville Rd.

Traffic has gotten steadily worse as the city has grown, though. Especially in the suburbs.

I'm in Atlanta at least 2-3 times a year. Nashville traffic is a breeze compared to Atlanta.

I've lived in both places. Driving through Nashville is like driving on a country road with little to no traffic compared to driving in Atlanta. Even the back roads are crowded. I lived in the burbs 10 miles from downtown and my record for shortest travel time was 50 minutes. Another difference is that on some nights at 2 in the morning the traffic is just as heavy. Really no comparison as to volume..

Another bad area is Harding Place from 65 over to Nolensville, near the Zoo. Very often Nolensville will backup past the Zoo trying to get south.

In the PM rush, getting off West End To E 440 is a mess with 440 clogged all the way to 24. There are no good routes on the west/south side from 40 to 65 or 24.

It ain't nothing. Every time I drive through Atlanta I feel like I'm going to die. In Nashville, I only feel like I'm going to die maybe once out of every eight drives, and mostly on I-24 going E from I-40. *shudders*

there is no comparison. Atlanta is a nightmare. Nashville is only bad if there is an accident and certain parts like south of Franklin where they are widening the road.
