Franklin is very nice, but when I visited it looked like it was about to boom with even more development and the land prices were very high. Nolensville and Fairview are within a very reasonable drive of all the shopping amenities that Franklin and Cool Springs has to offer, schools are good, and the land is much more affordable.
I'm a native NYer and we were researching Franklin for relocation, my spouse and even visited and looked at apartments for the move during a relocation trip. We wound up settling on a different location for the eventual move but we loved the Nashville area best. Good luck with your move, I'm a little jealous

The only thing I would caution about Nolensville is that it is pretty much inevitable that it is going to get swallowed up in suburbia. Nashville's development is moving down from the north, Brentwood's and Franklin's from the west and southwest, and Smyrna's from the east.

It's surrounded by the fastest growing cities in the state (and Nolensville itself had a high percentage of growth). Nolensville's days as a small town are numbered.

Yep I agree but it will be a bit of time before it's swallowed up and transformed. So one has the opportunity to pounce on 2-5 acres, now is a good time.

One problem with the outlying rural areas is that roads into Nashville can become jam-packed during rush hours. Taking Nolensville Pike from Nolensville to Nashville is a BAD idea at rush hour. A whole lotta people jammed onto a 2-lane road for a good part of the trip. On the other, you're quite a ways from I-24 if you live in Nolensville proper and I haven't tried making that drive at rush hour, but I presume that back roads are packed too.
And if you live in Fairview, good luck navigating Rt. 100 at rush hour because of all the development in Bellevue and Pegram.
That said, those are both lovely areas if you don't have to commute to Nashville or can commute outside of the usual rush hours.
@Alkonost, just out of curiosity, where did you end upresettling?
@Ettie-NY, good luck with the move. My wife and I moved from NYC to Nashville area 3 years ago. We love it here. You sound like the kind of people that Nashville would be lucky to attract. Feel free to send me a personal message if you have any specific questions I can answer about making the shift from NY to Nashville. But you've already gotten great advice from the Board.

you can have chickens and a chicken coop in murfreesboro city limits subdivisions as long as you don't have a rooster. crazy, but fun fact. i would definitely advise against nolensville. it has gone down hill in recent years.
best of luck to you. i'm in murfreesboro and our son moved to NYC about 7 years ago. i keep waiting for him to get his fill but he loves it there.
hope you find the place that's perfect for you!

Being from Wilson County (east of Nashville) you really don't have to go too far out to get the size place you're looking for and it's likely to be had for under your price range. Williamson County is great, I lived in Brentwood for years, but it can be on the pricey side.
I live on the eastern edge of the county and can get into Nashville in about 35 minutes during non rush hour. Morning commute is a good bit longer during peak, but we've also got a commuter rail line that seems to working for a lot of people who work in Nashville and live in Mt. Juliet or Lebanon.
Both Mt. Juliet and Lebanon have really come of their own over the past few years and there's most anything you want within the county saving a trip into Nashville. Anyway, don't let Wilson county pass you by. It's a great place to raise a family and in many ways still has that small town atmosphere even with it's city amenities.

My wife and I relocated to Pleasant View Tennessee from Massachusetts almost a year ago and couldn't be happier with the town and surrounding areas. We are in a subdivision with 1 acre and have only good things to say about this small town and Tennessee. If you want to PM me with questions I'll be happy to share what I've learned.
