How are the schools in MJ? I keep reading that they're just a step above Davidson County who doesn't have a great reputation for an education. Pros/Cons to MJ?

When you're doing your reading, you need to be careful of the broad brush. No county around here has invented an educational magic bullet, and attempting to rate them by county is an almost useless exercise because metrics like test scores closely follow demographics and every suburban county has zones that are considered more desirable than others.

I've noticed that in terms of perception, Williamson and Sumner tend to be graded as if their best zones are how all their schools are, while Rutherford and Wilson usually don't get that benefit. Not sure why. Maybe better real estate marketing.

Anyway, the schools in Mt. Juliet and west Wilson are very good. My advice would be to start thinking in terms of zones rather than counties, and you'll find any number of areas in Williamson, Wilson, Sumner and Rutherford you'll be comfortable.

They are way more than a step above Davidson.

Welcome Jenny! Glad you are having such a great transition.

expressthejess- I agree about comparing whole systems. The 2 magnet high schools in Nashville are some of the highest rated schools in Middle TN, and always make the national lists. And there are some wonderful elementary schools in Nashville. I'm not trying to talk you into Davidson County, I'm just pointing out that you can't realy compare whole counties.

I would research the best high schools in each district that have housing in your price range and then work from there. Check the middle schools that feed into that high school, and then the elementary schools.

I would also try the commutes to each area you are considering during rush hour. That should help you narrow it down.
