Landlord at apts will not even accept you if you do not make 3 times the rent which for a halfway decent 1 bedroom is $600 a month. These kids can't live with their parents because the parents usually aren't doing so well either. So what's the solution guys?
That will be 21600 a year. Most young people out of college think they deserve at least 50,000 a year that ain't gonna work in this economy.

"Gen Y values their time more??" That's a generalization that simply cannot be supported.

As for getting a job that balances work and personal life, "balance" is once thing; blending is altogether different. The habits I'm seeing are not an issue with "balancing" work and personal life. The problems I've seen result from a lack of any boundaries between work and personal life, and little respect for a job as something that cannot be blended with personal issues.

But really, there shouldn't be any boundaries.

Unless you're working for the FBI, there's no reason anything should be kept private, unless you're doing something shady.

The economy is doing fine.

The economy had a temporary dip in 2009-2010, which is normal in any capitalist economy.

I'm talking about work habits vs. personal habits, which certainly do need boundaries.

For example, I don't want someone working on a project for me who keeps their iPhone on their desk and constantly texts friends and makes weekend plans all day.

The old ban against "personal phone calls on company time" is harder to enforce with a generation who constantly has a personal phone in their hands.
