Metro Jobs - thoughts
Anyone brave enough to comment on the stability of Metro jobs?
I'm debating a career change and it's just hard to find go info on this. We just had a changing of the guard, so what's the general feeling?

The rank and file type of job shouldn't be affected by the new administration. I also don't see any great budget crunch; so I would guess Metro jobs to be relatively stable. Dean may put more money into the education budget (and possibly police) so some other departments may not get as much of an increase as they want (until the mayor is elected to a second term and requests (surprise!) a tax increase).

I worked for the State for awhile and I can tell you Metro pays better than the State and has better benefits too.

Hi-
My husband is considering taking a job with Metro once we move back stateside, so I'd be curious to hear any additional comments/opinions on what it's like working for them. Also, is anyone aware if Metro requires its employees to reside within the Metro area? We were hoping to live well North and East of the city, were real estate is still reasonable (for now, anyways).
Thanks!

Each department is somewhat different in working conditions from what I know.
I'm not completely sure, but I believe it's okay to live in one of the surrounding counties and still work for Metro.

Metro is short for Metropolitan Nashville Davidson County. Nashville has a consolidated city/county form of government. Most other towns and counties in Tennessee have a separate city and county government.
