Visiting and Hotel neighborhoods
We are planning on visiting Nashville the weekend of 10/26 to do some holiday shopping and maybe even scout out the area for a possible retirement condo.
When we travel, we are never in our rooms much so we "cheap out" at something like a Microtel Inn.
The one in Nashville is located at Bellevue Hwy 70 South and I-40 W (100 Coley Davis Court Nashville TN 37221)
Traveling from Chicago, we are always conscious of neighborhoods. What is this one like?
Also, how far would this be from the State Fair Grounds (plan on doing the flea market) and any other shopping.
Thanks

The Bellevue neighborhood where the Microtel is located is fine (I live a few miles from there); that "pocket" is mostly commercial but I assume you don't really care about that.
On the weekend the commute to either the flea market, the Opry Mills outlet mall, or the "antiques district" wouldn't be bad. I would probably recommend finding someplace closer if you were coming during the week just to make it easier on youself, but it would be fine to stay at the Microtel and drive in to downtown on weekends.
Bringing any kids or grandkids with you?
(I had to edit my original post . . . I just found out that the "State Fair Flea Market" is actually held at the Farmer's Market.)

Thanks Alleycat. You seem to be the local expert here
Coming from Chicago, a short drive, even in traffic, does not bother me.
I just worry about safety. I know that most Microtel's are in commercial areas but neighborhoods can change fast.
So Microtel it will be.
Now where is a good place to find an inexpensive 2 BR condo close to Nashville. Even 30 minutes out doesn't bother me.

You shouldn't have any problem whatsoever. It's a very low crime area. It does occur, but crime is relatively rare in Bellevue. That part of Bellevue is commerical, but it's not a bad area. The commute on I-40 to the Bicentennial Mall/Farmer's Market exit isn't bad at all. I do it everyday.
If you want lunch or dinner in the area while you're here you could try the nearby O'Charley's (nothing spectacular, but it's a couple of notches above a fast food place). If you want something nicer, there's Antonio's up the road. If you want to try a southern breakfast, the Loveless Cafe isn't too far away (everyone who is anyone has eaten there at one time . . . although you couldn't tell that by looking at the place).

I just did the final checking and Microtel is $80 for a sofa and a bed (their idea of a suite). I have never paid more than $50 at a Microtel.
Is that normal for that area?
Is there a better deal around for a hotel?

I don't really keep up with motel prices for the area . . . but I've arranged a few rooms for out-of-town friends and I don't believe I paid much more than that for one of the nicer places.

Can you suggest a nicer place for me to check out?

The State Fair Flea Market is held at the State Fairgrounds on Nolensville Rd.
I go every month, its a fun day.
You can stay at any of the motels over by OpryLand. It would be about a 15 or 20 minute drive to the Fairgrounds.
